The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), an initiative of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK), draws on decades of work on tobacco control campaigns and its growing experience on other public health issues to drive policy change campaigns around the globe to improve health. To date, these issues have included road safety, food policy, cardiovascular health, drowning prevention, civil registration & vital statistics, preventing epidemics, and maternal and reproductive health, among others.
The GHAI now seeks an Associate Director, Advocacy, to join a dynamic team advancing efforts to improve critical road safety policies in specific low-and middle-income countries. Every year an estimated 1.25 million people around the world die because of road traffic crashes, and millions more are injured. GHAI’s mandate under the road safety program is to stimulate policy change that will prevent road crash deaths and injury through addressing key behavioral risk factors, including speeding, seatbelts, child restraints, helmets, and drink driving. The Associate Director, Advocacy will report to the Program Director, Road Safety. This position is based in Washington, DC and is open to U.S. citizens and other applicants who already possess U.S. work authorization. Until reentry to the DC Office is approved, all DC- based positions are remote.
The Associate Director, Advocacy supports the execution of key programmatic efforts and policy change initiatives in 2-3 countries engaged in the program, in collaboration with the Road Safety Program Director, other GHAI road safety staff, and global partners.
The Associate Director, Advocacy works in partnership with civil society and multilateral organizations to advocate for policy change and engage in regulatory reforms that aim to improve road safety in low-and middle-income countries. The position requires a well-developed understanding of in-country advocacy campaigns that lead to national policy and regulatory change, strategic thinking, strong project management skills and the ability to work within cross-functional teams, and a demonstrated commitment to local partner advocacy training and capacity building in a global context. The position is located in Washington, D.C.
The Associate Director, Advocacy is responsible for leading GHAI’s road safety advocacy strategy and execution for 2-3 countries.
