Position description

WorldChicago is a non-profit organization that is host to global emerging leaders sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and other exchange partners. The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is a flagship program of WorldChicago and as such, the IVLP Program Manager is the lead staff person that will manage this highly visible program. This position reports directly to the President of WorldChicago and is responsible for managing the Program Associates and Program Assistants affiliated with this role.  Ideal candidates should be entrepreneurial and possess the capacity to identify and develop program proposals over a variety of themes. This role is a key team member responsible for reaching out to Chicago industry leaders to develop strong partnerships that empower local actors to play a major in our global work. 

 Position Responsibilities for IVLP:

  • Manage all aspects of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in Chicago - proposing, planning, developing, and implementing the programming for IVLP individuals and groups
  • Solicit IVLP delegations from the Department of State and national program agencies through established proposal processes
  • Manage IVLP records and statistics throughout the year and assist with Annual Report creation
  • Write grant for annual IVLP funding as well as relevant mid-year and final reports and all financial reports relevant to IVLP and Global Ties U.S. Train and manage program associates assigned to the IVLP program
  • Foster WorldChicago’s portfolio of professional resources through outreach and engagement Develop and continuously update database of professional resources
  • Build and maintain good relations with national partners, including the U.S. Department of State, Global Ties USA, and national program agencies in D.C.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with local hotels, transportation companies, and other Chicagoland area partners
  • Work with Managing Director of Programs and take the lead on creating one new business proposal each year that is outside of IVLP

Qualifications

  • At least 3 to 5 years of work experience in a fast-pace setting providing administrative support within project management, preferably with an international focus
  • Bachelor’s degree required and master’s degree strongly preferred in relevant field of study (international relations, international development, intercultural communication, business administration, international education, or another relevant field)
  • International experience or international exchange experience Ability to effectively communicate with government agencies, corporations, and non-profits
  • Occasional travel required (1 to 3 times per year); ability to work some evenings and weekends  

Preferred Experiences: 

  • Experience recruiting, selecting, and/or advising international students, scholars, or fellows 
  • Experience maintaining and managing local teams of volunteers 
  • Experience with website management and database management 
  • Experience designing or developing programs or events for professionals Experience working or studying abroad 
  • Experience managing federal grants or developing federal grant proposals
