Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Political Science provides concentrations in the following areas: 1) Civic Engagement and Public Policy, 2) Theory and Pre-law, and 3) Global Politics. The department ranks as the most resourceful undergraduate program in political science among all HBCUs by the American Political Science Association Review .

Primary Purpose of Position

This position is part of a broader department effort to foreground race, ethnicity, class, and gender; within the broader context of public policy in our curriculum. This position will be responsible for enhancing North Carolina Central's mission-driven focus on civic engagement and public policy through inclusive teaching and research efforts that will engage the academic and the larger community in an inclusive manner to address challenges inherent with race, ethnicity, class and gender from a regional and national perspective. 

Ability to teach and facilitate research at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of ethnicity, race, class and gender. The candidate must also have teaching experience in social science methods.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to teach and facilitate research at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of ethnicity, class, race, and gender. The candidate must also have teaching experience in social science research methods.

The candidate must be able to: 

(1) examine how race, class, ethnicity, and identity intersect in shaping the lives of minorities; 

(2) create an interactive forum for discussing, exploring, learner-centered teaching in strategies and pedagogical techniques that are important in advancing scholarship related to race, class, ethnicity, and identity. In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to advise students and perform scholarly research activities that are consistent with rank.

The candidate should also possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students, colleagues, and practitioners in the areas of civic engagement and public policy.

Minimum Education/Experience

PhD In Political Science
