Corporate Affairs
The Corporate Affairs group is the eyes, ears and public face of the organisation. It leads on strategy and is responsible for influencing and strengthening the internal and external landscapes that surrounds and impacts NewGlobe and its growing portfolio. The Corporate Affairs group is responsible for the public reputation of NewGlobe and its programmes, creating environments that support programmatic growth through engaging with stakeholders, influencing policy making and designing impactful communications.
The Corporate Affairs strategy is based upon a deep understanding, and awareness of, national and global trends, policies, regulatory changes and current affairs. It leads the overall strategic direction and implementation of initiatives and strategies across multiple channels, audiences and geographies.
The Corporate Affairs group always takes both a national and global perspective and is highly attuned to the nuances of frequently evolving politics and policy issues. Its work is based upon both an in depth understanding of NewGlobe, its programmes and the broader global and national education landscapes in which it operates. Through this, it devises strategies that connects NewGlobe’s programming with a diverse, and ever-expanding set of stakeholders.

Policy and Advocacy
The Policy and Advocacy team is housed in the Corporate Affairs group
NewGlobe’s Policy and Advocacy team works to shape and influence global and national education policies and decision making. They do this through supporting multilateral, bilateral and national institutions; think tanks and policymakers to improve relevant policies, practices, and investment decisions in global education and emerging markets fora.
NewGlobe’s influencing efforts rely on its programmatic record in the countries it serves, the empirical arguments it generates, and its proven experience of improving learning at scale. NewGlobe leverages these assets to build, strengthen and sustain its engagement with policy-makers, investors, partners and other leaders..

About the Role
NewGlobe is looking for a Vice President of Policy and Advocacy to join the team and build an influential department designed to influence global education policy and support local programming. They will ensure that NewGlobe participates meaningfully in the global policy debates and foras which impact the organisation’s priorities & programmes.
The Vice President will lead NewGlobe’s policy, advocacy, and influence efforts globally, serving as a key strategic voice within the organisation. They will be responsible for conceiving and executing a strategy to influence the policy and practice of global bi-lateral and multilateral institutions; funders and investors. They will be responsible for helping programme leaders to develop local policy and advocacy strategies, and building capacity across the organization to enable the strategic use of advocacy to further our work.
An invaluable senior representative, The Vice President will steward NewGlobe’s reputation amongst key external stakeholders as an essential, innovative, thoughtful, and high impact leader in learning. They will be responsible for helping to set vision of the Corporate Affairs function, serving as an in-house expert on global trends in education and the global development space.
The Vice President will work closely with the Executive Team, and programme leaders across the organization while leading recruiting, managing and leading a team of policy and advocacy professionals.
The Vice President reports directly to the Chief of Corporate Affairs.

What You Will Do
Strategy & Vision

  • Informed by NewGlobe’s corporate strategy and grounded in a strong understanding of how to successfully influence policy debates, develop a strategy and vision for the organisation’s global policy and influencing work.
  • Provide strategic and day to day leadership of NewGlobe’s Policy and Advocacy department and the organisation’s efforts to influence and inform global education related policy.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of NewGlobe’s advocacy platform, strategy, priorities and implementation.
  • Ensure that the global policy and advocacy vision allows for influence approaches tailored to each unique operating context; and creates a management and operational structure to facilitate this.
  • Identity and secure strategic partnerships to enhance programming initiatives.
  • Build and leverage a strong network in the global education space to shape policy and funding conversations designed to support and enhance programming.
  • Advise NewGlobe’s executive team on policy advocacy opportunities and approaches to complement NewGlobe’s overall strategy, and specific geographic and program-related strategies.
  • Ensures strong relationships and close collaboration with other NewGlobe teams, and our Program leads.

Influence & Representation*

  • Represent NewGlobe in high level policy-related meetings, committees, and fora in Washington DC, London, and key global settings, to help achieve NewGlobe’s global education and program policy and advocacy goals.
  • Build, support, and maintain strong relationships with multilaterals, bilaterals, policymakers, think tanks, and senior government officials in the US, UK, and EU.
  • Advise and oversee NewGlobe’s engagement on working groups that are instrumental to advancing the global education agenda and NewGlobe’s programming.
  • Work closely with NewGlobe’s Chief of Corporate Affairs to ensure our efforts reflect a global approach to influence, representation, and outreach – and that there is complementarity between our U.S.-based, UK / EU based and our Pan African efforts .
  • Contribute to or lead on written pieces including policy pieces, thought leadership and other external facing communications, drawing on original NewGlobe’s research and points of view, programmatic work, and other relevant research and evidence.
  • Develop, maintain and strengthen priority influencer and partner relationships. Seek new partnerships where needed to expand NewGlobe’s capacity and effectiveness to achieve policy and global education goals.
  • Develop and leverage partnerships with think tanks, multilaterals, government institutions and the private sector to ensure that NewGlobe’ views and programmes are represented in external debates.
  • Find opportunities for the Executive team, programme and other leaders to participate in funding and policy debates.

  • Recruit and manage diverse, exceptional global talent, oversee career development and engagement of the policy and advocacy team, and keep the executive team and Board of Trustees current on key policy trends and important developments.

What You Should Have

  • Graduate degree in international relations, development, public policy, or related fields of study.
  • Extensive and deep experience in advocacy and/or influencing policy related to international development, global education or related fields required; within a global multilateral or bilateral such as the World Bank or USAID.
  • Wide ranging experience in policy / advocacy within the global education landscape or development sector, engaging with the private sector in policy and practice.
  • A dynamic and compelling approach to leadership with established relationships and demonstrable achievements in the US and/or global advocacy and policy landscapes. Demonstrable experience in influencing policy / legislative decision making at a global level.
  • Significant experience of living and working on policy and advocacy issues within markets across the African continent.
  • Demonstrable experience of representing organisations in high-level global policy forums and discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability to open doors and a track-record building partnerships with a broad and relevant network of key influencers including with multilaterals, bi-laterals, policymakers and other major international stakeholders
  • Superior communications skills—both written and oral..
  • A strategic thinker, capable of developing and executing on an ambitious - yet realistic - policy and advocacy plan to achieve targeted programming goals and influence in policy and practice.
