This is a locally engaged staff position at an overseas Australian Diplomatic Mission.
This is a 2 year term of employment with the possibility of renewal.
Under limited direction, work as a part of a small team in support of the Australian Government’s diplomatic and policy objectives in New York and the US Northeast. The position is responsible for monitoring, analysing and providing advice on issues in the US Government that have the capacity to affect Australian interests. The position will manage the Consulate’s relationship with Government and US political stakeholders; providing advice on US political and legislative developments, and advocacy in support of Australian interests. The scope of work will cover all levels of the US Government; federal, state and local. The position will also assist in arranging and coordinating visit programs, and support the Consulate’s diplomatic outreach program and events.

This position requires a probity check to be completed. Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the employee having or acquiring a valid DFAT probity check. Probity checks can take some time to process, and employment not be commenced until an appropriate check is confirmed. There is no guarantee that the successful candidate for the position will be successful in obtaining a probity check. The inability to obtain a probity check prevents that applicant from being employed and loss of a probity check at any time will lead to termination of employment.
