Position description

We are currently looking for an experienced and motivated Catastrophe Analyst keen to join our Catastrophe Management team in a senior position as a Non-Natural Peril Exposure Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to broaden their existing knowledge in an expanding sector of Catastrophe Management working for a top 3 Lloyds’ syndicate and global (re)insurer.

The role requires thorough knowledge of catastrophe modelling methods, strong leadership and management abilities and capacity to convey analytics and ideas to key stakeholders across the group. The individual will be actively involved in expanding reporting and scenarios, working closely with underwriting teams within Crisis Management, Casualty, Cyber, Bloodstock, Aviation, Space, Offshore Energy and A&H.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the Global Head of Exposure Management and Head of Non-natural Peril Analytics to provide management with the tools and insight required to better understand non-natural catastrophe aggregation risk across the Group
  • Management of team responsible for creating and enhancing non-natural catastrophe reporting MI to help drive strategic decision making
  • Responsible for internal and external reporting and regulatory returns for both group and syndicate for classes responsible
  • Delivery of the quarterly non-natural cat packs within report timeframes, with opportunity to expand metrics alongside growth and diversification
  • Build out and collation of all casualty report metrics leveraging data within this class to help build out scenarios for effective monitoring
  • Working with the capital team to embed enhancements in non-natural catastrophe view of risk into the internal model
  • Active involvement in developing relationships with underwriters and key business stakeholders, with the aim of integrating underwriting and Non-Cat frameworks and goals
  • Work closely with the Senior Technical lead in Non-Natural Perils to help drive automation projects to streamline workflows and improve efficiency within the team
  • Work closely with Underwriting Management, Outwards Reinsurance and Reinsurance Analytics teams to identify and produce outwards reinsurance data to support Canopius’ capital and earnings preservation objectives
  • Use of RMS, Sequel Impact, Cybercube and proprietary tools to help capture and monitor aggregations within the Non-Natural Perils team
  • Work with the Head of Catastrophe Research and Non-Natural Peril Exposure manager to drive improvements to view of risk (VoR) across classes of business, either through enhancement to existing scenarios, and/or build out of new views of risk to help manage and monitor non-modelled risk across the Group for classes responsible

 

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an exposure management role within the non-natural peril space is essential
  • Experience working on non-natural peril classes within Catastrophe Management – including (but not limited to) Casualty, Cyber, Crisis Management and Political Risk
  • Team management experience and leadership expertise is essential
  • Good knowledge of Catastrophe model vendors – those pertaining to non-natural perils of particular advantage  
  • Experience building out views of risk and scenarios pertaining to non-natural peril classes
  • Excellent business communication skills - ability to influence, negotiate, and listen to senior stakeholders, external parties and members of the Catastrophe Management team
  • Experience effectively communicating technical concepts, methods, and model strengths/limitations to stakeholders with a range of backgrounds
  • Ability to manipulate large data sets with advanced Excel and SQL skills
  • Highly numerate and logical – strong mathematical/statistical knowledge is advantageous
  • Good knowledge of (re)insurance and the Lloyd’s market
  • Degree in an analytical discipline preferred but not required (e.g. War/Security Studies, International Relations, Computer Science, Economics, Geography and Geology)
