AIUSA’s Campaigns & Crisis Response Unit leads the design and implementation of the organization’s human rights Campaigns, Spotlights and Crisis Response efforts to make a real difference in peoples’ lives as a step toward transforming our world to one in which all human rights of all people, everywhere, are respected, protected and fulfilled. The Amnesty movement defines a Campaign as a highly focused, time-bound, and winnable project, strategically planned, coordinated, and communicated to achieve an explicitly defined external objective. The organization’s Campaigns use a range of tactics and a high concentration of human and operational resources. AIUSA’s Campaigns can be on any human rights topic, issue or case, in the US or globally. Advancing inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA) are at the heart of our Campaigns and everything we do.
The fixed-term Senior Campaigner plays an important and exciting role with diverse stakeholders in creating, implementing, evaluating, and winning AIUSA’s human rights Campaigns, Spotlights and Crisis Response efforts.
The position helps develop effective strategies; carries out efficient management of specific projects; leads the planning and implementation of effective and creative tactics within the strategy, particularly grassroots activism tactics and stunts; creates compelling campaigning and activism materials and content including for public education and engagement; trains and inspires activists; and carries out critical logistical and administrative duties.
Strong experience is preferred in Refugee and Migrants Rights, including asylum; authoritarian practices and freedom of expression and assembly; U.S. foreign policy and human rights; and/or Gender, Sexuality and Identity Rights.
This role is a union position and covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Communication Workers of America (CWA), Local 1180.
Essential Responsibilities
Work in close collaboration with a range of stakeholders, including impacted people, partners and Amnesty members and staff in the USA and worldwide, to help design and win human rights Campaigns and other human rights projects such as Crisis Response and Rapid Response efforts. Select with stakeholders a specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely (SMART) objective for each campaign or project to achieve, one that also advances inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA)
Create and implement with stakeholders a sound and effective strategy to achieve the objective, using strategic campaigning tools, data analysis and campaigning best practices, in collaboration with stakeholders
Collaborate with stakeholders to select, implement, and evaluate effective tactics within the campaign strategy, including creative and innovative grassroots activism tactics, training and public education and creative stunts that build and diversify grassroots power. This will include creating compelling supporter journeys, materials, content and training for grassroots activists
Integrate monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) best practices throughout each Campaign; collect, analyze and report relevant data; embed learnings within AIUSA and implement them in future Campaigns; and share Campaign results with stakeholders internally for staff, board, and members, and externally to coalitions and the public
Continuously develop campaigning skills and best practices through training and education; help other stakeholders develop those skills and best practices; and embed those skills and best practices in AIUSA’s Campaigning resources
Develop relationships with relevant international, national, and local coalition partners and other stakeholders to make human rights impact, win Campaigns, foster collaboration, and help grow the size, diversity, and influence of the human rights movement in the US and around the world
Develop high quality activism and advocacy supporter journeys, trainings and materials for Campaigns and priority areas of work, including activist toolkits, public education materials, strategy trainings, and other digital and written material as needed to achieve Campaign objectives
Logistical and administrative duties related to the team and campaigning
When required, assist the National Director of Campaigns and Crisis Response on crisis response efforts

Qualifications and Experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong strategic thinking, project management, and analytical skills
Experience and expertise in engaging, training, mobilizing and inspiring people on human rights and to take action/be activists
Excellent organizational and task management skills, with attention to detail
Excellent written communication skills including in the context of writing compelling public engagement or public education materials, social media messaging
Strong oral communication and facilitation skills and comfort speaking in public
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills and ability to maintain composure under pressure

Education and Experience
B.A. and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
Experience leading the development and implementation of impactful campaigns, including the creation of effective strategies and the implementation of effective grassroots activism tactics and creative stunts
Experience with key campaign tactics including grassroots activism, public education, creative stunts, coalition-building, lobbying, and strategic communications.
Experience writing compelling public education materials and social media messaging
Experience creating campaigns that deeply engage people in grassroots activism, including through collaboration, inspiration, training, materials and mobilization
Experience lobbying government officials and doing public speaking is preferred. Demonstrated success in collaborating with a range of internal and external diverse stakeholders, including across teams, and with volunteers and partners, in designing and winning campaigns
Demonstrated success in designing and running campaigns that helped grow and diversify a grassroots base
Demonstrated success in designing and running campaigns that advance inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility
Experience using digital tools including email, SMS, social media and data analytics to achieve campaign victories that attract new supporters. Demonstrated commitment and understanding of a range of human rights issues
Commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility
Basic understanding of international human rights law preferred
Spanish or other languages a plus
