Position description

Role Summary:

Manage development and implementation of the Jordan support functions to facilitate the implementation of country programme strategy. Providing leadership, strategic direction, management and evaluation of all aspects of the support functions, the Deputy Country Director (DCD) plays a key role in systems development, legal compliance, finance & grant management, operational coordination, and team leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic & Staff Management - Contribute to strategic direction, leadership, and change management of Jordan programme as part of Senior Management Team. Line-manage Grants, Finance, Logistics, and HR departments.
  • Programme Support Management – Ensure good financial management standards, deliverables, and practices across various awards, ensuring budgets are spent according to proposals, donor rules and regulations, and timeframes; provide guidance to partnership award management and due diligence.
  • Security Management - Support the Security Focal Point (CD) to oversee and monitor staff adherence to security protocols, manage security incidents, update and implement security protocols, and provide training in security-related topics.
  • Communication - Develop and maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure with colleagues to ensure they are kept informed of support related activities and requirements.
  • Representation - Support CD and Programmes Coordinator in the maintenance of relationships with relevant stakeholders and represent Medair at relevant meetings to facilitate and ensure cooperation and partnerships.

Qualifications & Technical Competencies:

  • At least 4 years post-qualification experience in a management position.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Experience in dealing with donors and government officials.
  • Knowledge of Humanitarian Essentials, Sphere and Core Humanitarian Standards.
  • Strong knowledge of UN and other humanitarian actors and of current humanitarian debates and issues.

  • Advanced planning, assessment and analytical skills.
  • Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues.
