About the fellowship
Gain skills and practice in applied research while you contribute to impactful research.
AIM Visiting Fellows are embedded in our research team, evaluating which charity ideas are strong
enough to recommend to founders on our Charity Entrepreneurship Incubation Program. You'll gain
applied research experience through continuous practice and feedback, and an insider's view of how
our team selects, evaluates and recommends new charity ideas.
You'll work on the same questions our Research Managers do – evaluating interventions, designing
research, and making calls under uncertainty – but with more guidance, more feedback, and a pace
built for learning.
Past fellows have gone on to join our research team and a wide range of impactful organisations,
including Prevail, Animal Charity Evaluators, Giving What We Can, Giving Green, Shrimp Welfare
Project, and other AIM-incubated charities.
For this round, we seek fellows with the following backgrounds:
Global Health: People with experience or a deep interest in scalable global health intervention
evaluation or design.
Policy: People with experience in designing and evaluating policy interventions.
Epidemiology or medicine: People with a background in epidemiology or medicine.

“Research at AIM is a fantastic fit for anyone who is motivated both by curiosity and impact and
who enjoys an investigative process of getting to the answer (which, for us, means finding the
best charity ideas). We get to learn about many different topics on a shallow level, then pick the
best ones to dive into deeply and, at the end of it all, there will be a new incubated charity
implementing the solution we identified — often just six to twelve months later. People sometimes
tell me that I have the most interesting job they’ve heard of!”

What the fellowship looks like
First few weeks: You'll start with diagnosis and growth conversations – identifying where your
skills are newer and setting concrete growth targets – alongside independent learning and practice
using AIM's research curriculum.
Thereafter: You become a fully embedded member of the team, with dedicated, ongoing feedback
from senior staff researchers.
We're looking for people who bring:
Resilience – you can take on hard tasks and direct feedback without taking it personally. Comfort
with high-stakes decisions and fast-paced environments is a strong signal.
Prioritisation instinct – you can sort what matters from what doesn't from day one, and make
decisions under uncertainty.
Comfort with quantitative work – you don't need to be a "maths person," but you should be at
home in spreadsheets and unafraid of putting numbers on things.
Scepticism – you ask whether something is actually true, not just whether it sounds good.
This fellowship is likely a good fit if you:
Want to explore applied, decision-focused research. Past fellows have ranged from recent master's
and PhD graduates and early-career researchers (1–3 years) to experienced researchers wanting to
learn our approach first-hand. We've also hosted medical doctors moving into global health
research.
Want to test whether research at a high-impact organisation is the right path for you
Are more interested in finding the best option than in going deep on a single topic
It's probably not the right fit if you:
Are looking for an academic post, or want to publish
Want to stay focused on one disease or topic area for the whole five months
