The Spanish Language Media Strategist position, located in Earthjustice’s Washington, D.C. regional office, is responsible for getting Spanish-language press coverage of Earthjustice litigation and policy work, and for developing communications strategy for issue areas impacting Latino communities.

The Spanish Language Media strategist works with litigators, policy staff, and national and regional communication Strategists to identify English and Spanish language media opportunities for relevant issue areas and executes on strategy, including press pitching, developing media lists, building relations with journalists, and promoting thought leaders on Spanish-language outlets. The strategist drafts press releases, blogs, op-eds, social media posts and works with contractors to ensure that relevant content is translated and curated on our Spanish-language web pages.

This position also works closely with national and regional communication strategists on developing communications strategy for issues that disproportionately impact Latino communities.  He or she helps set campaign goals and audiences, develops top-level messaging and storytelling frames, and participates in content creation, including writing, multimedia, and social media production. The position is also tasked with working with the marketing team to develop and execute strategies to engage and expand Latino audiences, including research, polling, and partnership outreach to boost awareness and brand recognition of Earthjustice and the issues we work on. He or she will help develop messaging guidance for the Communications department to better incorporate diversity, equity and inclusion values in both internal and external communications. The Spanish Language Media Strategist may also work in areas that coincide with Latino outreach but have other priorities such as advancing an overall campaign or marquee issue.

This position reports to the National Media Strategist in the Program Communications team of the Communications Department.


National, Regional and Online Media Relationships (60%):

  • Pitches both English and Spanish-language media on key cases and issues. This includes reaching out to reporters, writers, and producers at national and regional Spanish language, Latino-oriented and mainstream papers, magazines, TV, radio, and online media outlets.
  • Works with National Media Strategist and marketing team to pursue branding opportunities and communications partnerships to boost awareness and engagement with Latino audiences, including the promotion of Earthjustice thought leaders to a Spanish-speaking audience.
  • Manages Spanish language media contractors and bilingual communications budget.
  • Works with National Media Strategist and program staff to assess and provide media training and messaging needs, especially for Spanish-language press opportunities.

Strategy and Content Creation (40%):

  • Works with litigators, policy staff, clients, partners, and national and regional communications strategist on developing communications strategy for issues heavily impacting Latino communities.
  • Works with Brand Communications team in developing and promoting bilingual social media, multimedia, and written content for high-profile campaigns, as well as content for key campaigns targeting Latino audiences.
  • Works with digital team to develop and curate Spanish-language content on Earthjustice’s website.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or Marketing preferred.
  • Five to seven years experience in reporting or media relations with emphasis on environment, social or environmental justice causes preferred.
  • Fluent and/or native Spanish speaker.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Experience pitching media

  • Knowledge and ability to use multimedia communications tools.
