Position description

The Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington (AGSIW), launched in 2015, is an independent, nonprofit institution dedicated to providing expert research and analysis of the social, economic, and political dimensions of the Gulf Arab states and how they affect domestic and foreign policy. AGSIW focuses on issues ranging from politics and security to economics, trade, and business; from social dynamics to civil society and culture. Through programs, publications, and scholarly exchanges the institute seeks to encourage thoughtful debate and inform the U.S. foreign-policy and business communities regarding this critical geostrategic region. 

Position Overview 

The Development Coordinator plays a critical role supporting the Senior Director of Programs and Outreach in fundraising, identifying potential partners and sponsors, and coordinating and managing programs relevant to donor sustainment. 

Specific Areas of Responsibility 
Development and Fundraising 

Research and identify new sources of funding, and prepare materials for donor meetings 
Create and maintain a database of potential funders, to improve donor stewardship and maintain constituent data in CRM 
Compile activity reports, and maintain and update fundraising and marketing documents 
Draft effective fundraising solicitation letters, grant proposals, emails, and other materials to potential donors 
Keep track of relevant deadlines and membership renewals 
Working with the Publications and Digital Media section, assist in maintaining and updating program audience databases and mailing lists 
Events 

Monitor developments in the Gulf states, identify those most relevant to donors’ interests, and suggest possible AGSIW programs 
Working with the Manager of Programs and Outreach, plan and execute these events 
In coordination with the Senior Director of Programs and Outreach, lead donor engagement activities, planning and executing periodic events to meet fundraising goals 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required, MA preferred 
  • 5 years of relevant work experience 
  • Demonstrated fundraising and research experience 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proposal writing and fundraising engagement 
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and oral) 
  • An understanding of or interest in the Middle East and the key issues affecting U.S. policy in the region 
  • Self-starter and results-oriented individual who can meet tight deadlines and work in a very fluid environment 
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office 
  • InDesign experience is a plus
