Facebook is seeking a Policy Communications Manager, State to support a wide variety of policy issues. The ideal candidate is a cross-functional team player with strong organizational skills to manage the various campaigns, projects, and key initiatives that are happening across Facebook and our family apps. This person has experience and expertise in developing and running successful campaigns, including engaging state and local media.
A key part of the role will be developing and executing a state-by-state communications plan designed to address individual needs and policy concerns within local governments across the country. This person will be a skilled media strategist with strong experience in developing and executing high-profile, national communications campaigns, building and managing press relationships and handling high-profile corporate issues. Highly motivated and versatile, this person knows how to create collaborative campaigns that bring together various stakeholders around a common mission. They should have a deep understanding of the media landscape (both local and national), be hands-on and capable of managing proactive and reactive communications plans from strategy to execution. The ideal candidate will also have extensive experience managing agencies, and overseeing large, cross-functional efforts that involve teams outside of Communications.
This position will be based in Menlo Park, California or San Francisco, California.
Help create and execute strategic communications strategies at a local, state and national level
Manage the implementation of campaign plans that includes coordinating with other partners within the communications organization, federal and state policy, product, social impact, news partnerships, and research to ensure cross-functional alignment and fully integrated campaign implementation
Think creatively about the way we tell our story and the channels we use to get the message across that Facebook is changing
Prepare briefing materials for the executives and spokespeople on various policy-related issues
Create reporting systems to track campaign success
Develop and pitch stories and op-eds
Manage vendor, consultant and agency resources as needed and oversee large, cross-functional efforts to support the Facebook business
Work collaboratively within the Communications team
12+ years of experience working in communications
Experience in policy communications, public affairs, crisis communications or issues management
Understanding of the current public policy landscape for digital platforms
Critical thinking, problem solving and writing skills
Experience managing the narrative around regulatory and policy issues
Experience working with press and external stakeholders
Experience working with state policymakers and influencers to achieve business objectives
Bachelor's Degree in Policy, Journalism, or International Relations
Experience working for or with governments, NGOs or other public policy entities
Experience managing diverse cross-functional stakeholders
Experience working on issues related to regulation
Capable of thriving in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
