Position description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Program Manager will join a dynamic and growing team advancing efforts to support local partners working to improve critical drowning prevention, tobacco control, and other health policies in low-and middle-income countries. The Program Manager will support two regional directors in the execution of key programmatic efforts and policy change initiatives on tobacco control and drowning prevention.  This position is based in Washington, DC, and reports to the Directors for South Asia and South East Asia. All applicants must to eligible to work in the United States. Staff are currently working remotely.  Reentry to the Washington office is expected in Fall 2021. 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Program Manager supports the South Asia and South East Asia teams to help Government Organizations and Non-Government Organizations (GO/NGO) partners in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, to conduct effective public health policy advocacy campaigns on tobacco control, and drowning prevention policies. The Program Manager provides senior-level strategic analysis and coordination by conducting research/information gathering for key policy issues and country scoping, preparing program reports, reviewing grants, leading, and assisting with strategy development, and preparing research and effective communications materials for use in advocacy campaigns.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting:

  • Draft and oversee production of monthly, semi-annual, and annual funder reports and newsletter, including capturing and documenting technical assistance provided.
  • Coordinate with local teams and partners to track and document progress.

 

Secondary Research and Material Development:

  • Conduct secondary research to help develop easily understood advocacy materials that communicate the need for policy change to policy makers, the media, and the public. 
  • Review new research for relevance to advocacy campaigns and work with communications team and local partners to disseminate in support of advocacy efforts. 
  • Document the knowledge base, emerging research, impact analysis and best practices and share with relevant parties.
  • Maintain electronic records of research articles, reports, and relevant information for the teams.
  • Respond to information requests from the team, global partners, and grantees.
  • Create briefing materials on programs and assist with the onboarding of new team members.
  • Support the document production needs of the group, including formatting (e.g., reports), proof reading, and preparing presentation materials.

 

Coordination:

  • Liaise with grants/contracts/admin teams to ensure timely issuance of grants, contracts, and invoices.
  • Ensures smooth operational and programmatic implementation, including monitoring timelines and deliverables. Coordinate with communications focal point to ensure tailored communications assistance to local partners.
  • Liaise with marketing focal point to explore ways to highlight program/policy efforts in various NCD/Injury Prevention platforms and related platforms.

 

Miscellaneous:

  • Attend coordination meetings and calls with global partners to ensure synergy and collaboration.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Regional Directors, South Asia, and South East Asia Programs.

 

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s in public health or related discipline
  • Resourceful in locating and summarizing research and information on public health issues.
  • Familiarity/experience with public health policy advocacy preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including editing and proofing with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, solve problems creatively and work independently.
  • Detail oriented and flexible.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while juggling multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience working at the international level and in cross-cultural settings a plus.
  • Fluency in English required and the ability to speak additional languages is highly desirable.
  • Willingness and ability to travel globally when required.
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign or similar design software a plus.
