Position description

The International Visitors Council of Los Angeles (IVCLA) is a private, non-partisan, non-profit organization, which implements international professional and cultural exchange programs, including the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The purpose of IVCLA’s work is to increase mutual understanding through communication at the personal and professional levels and thereby contribute to improving relations between the United States and other countries.

About the Position:

Under the direct supervision of the President, the full-time Communications & Events Coordinator assists in developing and implementing programs and communications to capture interest, encourage involvement, and gain support for IVCLA. This includes assisting in the development of membership materials, social media outreach and special events planning, and representing IVCLA at events, activities, and meetings.

Functions of the Communications & Events Coordinator include:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of all events including panel discussions, fundraising events and receptions/mixers with an international focus
  • Prepare newsletter publications and public relations communications
  • Manage all social media platforms and their content
  • Manage website and update content
  • Serve as a liaison for current and potential membership, assist with the development and retention of membership and maintain membership database


  • Minimum equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Excellent writing and editing skills to prepare clear, concise correspondence, and other communications
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of using social media and online platforms for marketing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to multi-task and attend to detail under tight deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with many types of people from varied cultures
  • Interest in international relations and related fields
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings as needed for special events
