Position description

The Program Manager for Global Education in the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs (OVPGA) provides programming support for signature initiatives to promote global education opportunities and approaches at UNC-Chapel Hill. Primarily this involves support for Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL, along with other modes of virtual exchange). Global education programming promotes innovative and high-impact global and intercultural learning across academic disciplines in all of UNC's 13 graduate/professional schools and the College of Arts & Sciences and supports faculty interested in integrating these approaches.

The Program Manager also oversees several globally-focused awards and fellowships for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty.Reporting to the Associate Director of Global Education and aligned with the strategy and priorities set by the Vice Provost for Global Affairs, the Program Manager conducts outreach across campus for global education programs and is responsible for program planning, logistics, budget, and evaluation. Global education programming may include information sessions, workshops, and peer groups for UNC faculty and teaching assistants; up-to-date instructional resources, technology, and tools that support global education; guest lectures (in-person and virtual), campus visits by international dignitaries or diplomats, panels, and symposia; and faculty awards.

The Program Manager works closely with other OVPGA staff, UNC's six Area Studies Centers, the Study Abroad Office, global programs administrators in the graduate/professional schools and College, UNC faculty, global visiting faculty and scholars, undergraduate and graduate students, and other campus units. The Program Manager may supervise graduate assistants, interns, or student workers.The Program Manager's work is central to the University's strategic priority to globalize, articulated in the Carolina Next: Innovations for Public Good strategic plan, which positions UNC-Chapel Hill to be the leading global public research university. Specifically, the Program Manager advances objective 7.2 of Carolina Next, Guarantee that a global education is available to all students though a growing menu of global education opportunities on campus. This will be achieved by diversifying and strengthening global learning across the Carolina curriculum on campus and abroad, including through enhanced support to faculty for developing new, revised, globally partnered and interdisciplinary global resources. With a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and ethics, the Program Manager represents the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Affairs and UNC-Chapel Hill to internal and external audiences in a manner consistent with University and Office/team messaging; audiences may include faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, employers, community members, program officers, associations, journalists, and others.  

 

 

 

Qualifications

Prior professional or educational experience related to international education or international relations is desired. Applicants who have worked or studied abroad, or who have worked as part of a globally diverse team, and multilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.
