About the Opportunity

The People & Culture team manages the entire employee lifecycle from attraction to onboarding, from developing and promotion to separation. Our goal is to curate and shape systems for B Lab so that our teammates can do their best work, and be their most authentic, best selves at work. The People & Culture team has developed 4 main branches of work: Talent, Strategy & Experience, People Systems Operations, and Learning & Development.

The Sr. Manager, Learning & Development will lead the newly-forming Learning & Development team. They will be tasked with building out this function to support key talent management strategies for a high performing organization in alignment with B Lab’s mission, values, culture and strategic priorities. This position facilitates organizational initiatives across the organization that enhance our team capacity, identifies and develops best practice standards, provides ongoing assessment and diagnostics that uncover trends, insights, organizational issues/needs. Further, the role is accountable for designing and delivering learning solutions with the goal of improving organizational performance. Learning and development is a critical component of a fulfilling employee experience, therefore this position shares an advisory role for many of the major functions on the People & Culture team (Talent, Strategy and Experience, People System Operations). This role will also help B Lab build and stretch our asynchronous work muscles as we transition to an intentionally remote-first environment.

Here are the major objectives for the first 6-12 months:

  • Build out management/leadership development programs across the organization
  • Facilitate training programs with external partners, ensuring participation goals are met and prioritizing continuous improvement based on participant feedback
  • This role will lead in assessing our current onboarding program and ensure that it is scalable, and agile, and inclusive across departments and locations
  • Develop learning and development standards so that other departments can meet demands for departmental training needs 
  • Pilot a needs assessment of our organizational training needs to prepare for learning objectives and new partnerships for FY 2023

Core Responsibilities 

Learning and Development Strategy  [50%] 

  • Development of the global learning and organization development strategy, defining the perspective, methodologies, and practices for B Lab’s approach to organizational development
  • Work with other functions on the People & Operations teams to support building out learning objectives for leaders and staff
  • Guide organizational leadership in identifying needs and proposing learning solutions, ensuring alignment with company learning strategy and strategic business imperatives.
  • Link learning objectives to performance management systems
  • Management and strategy of B Lab's Learning Management System, Thinkific. Including: working with and training functional team leads using it for departmental specific purposes, advising on expansion of use, etc
  • Develop and report on metrics to help determine if goals are met and pulse the health and growth of the Learning and Development function. 

Facilitation and Coordination [30%]

  • Lead the coordination of regular business learning communications, ensure the sharing of suggestions for improving learning processes are updated to enhance the learning experience
  • Facilitation of learning initiatives using a variety of approaches including blended learning using digital earning programs and virtually delivered events, as well as experiential approaches such as action learning, action inquiry, immersive simulations, large group events to support business objectives.
  • Manage B Lab’s Onboarding education initiatives, ensuring learning objectives, established metrics to measure objectives and progress and a system for process improvements 

Management of others, Circle (committee) Management [20%]

  • This role will hold management responsibilities with the idea to settle into the role and then hire another team member within the calendar year
  • This role also has the potential to manage or coordinate with other department specific training managers to create continuity, standards and transparency.


  • 8+ years of progressive experience in learning & development roles (with a minimum of 3 years in a management process and or people role) 
  • 3-5 years of experience in a organizational management role managing people and impact processes
  • Previous experience working in multinational companies (nonprofits or charities) 
  • Previous experience working in an organization with a globally dispersed and diverse team

  • Supportive leader - demonstrated ability to lead with empathy
  • Understanding of complex organizations & systems - working with ambiguity 
  • Proficient in written & spoken English

While not required the following would be a plus:

  • Language skills in business Spanish and/or Portuguese

Compensation Details

B Lab offers a competitive compensation plan that includes:

  • An annual salary of €74,000 - €77,000 inclusive of holiday allowance
  • B Lab pension scheme

  • After your first year of employment, 40 hours paid time off for community service; paid parental leave; and a professional development budget (we assess this PD budget annually)
  • 20 Vacation days per year, prorated to your start date - front-loaded and restarting each January 1; increased with tenure.
