ecosecurities is seeking an experienced Carbon Project Origination Lead to join the Latin American team. As Carbon Project Origination Lead, you will play a critical role in the development, expansion, and validation of ecosecurities’ NBS program in Latin America. The role will be responsible for identifying opportunities and developing strategic relationships for the origination of new carbon offset projects in the region, whilst collaborating with technical and legal team members to ensure the best practices in the due diligence, negotiation, and contractual agreement procedures with the relevant stakeholders.
The Carbon Project Origination Lead will be responsible for moving priority opportunities to full-scale development including: i) developing the value proposition of proposals and projects ii) determining project's technical, financial, social and climate eligibility & viability; iii) supporting project management, feasibility studies, PDDs, and emission reduction models development, as required, iv) assess project’s impact across environmental, community and socio-economic parameters; and iii) supporting design and delivery of long-term monitoring and impact assessment mechanisms for those projects being certified to voluntary market standards.
The origination lead will be working in close collaboration with ecosecuritie’s teams operating across Latin America, as well as ecosecurities’ global team in Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions. This is a full-time position and candidates should be based preferably in Colombia, Mexico, Panama, or Peru.
Develop and maintain ecosecurities’s relationships with partners and counterparties to enhance collaboration, develop partnership, secure funding, and scale initiatives.
Support the assessment of carbon projects’ potential, pre-feasibility, project risk analysis, financial models, benefits sharing mechanisms.
Support project management by overseeing all the technical aspects of carbon projects implementation processes from registration to issuance.
Identify new opportunities and thematic areas for the growth and development of ecosecurities NbS program of work across the NACCA region.
Stay up to date with climate change policy and the evolution of VCM standards and methodologies and UNFCCC developments to inform and support guiding the NbS carbon project structuring and development.
Support the definition of commercial strategies and action plans and the development of marketing and commercial materials as needed.
Work in close collaboration with the ecosecurities NBS teams operating across Latin America, as well as ecosecurities’ global team in Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific regions to ensure alignment of strategies and priorities.
Provide periodic reports and assessments on progress against project development for internal and external audiences.
Other task as directed by the Head of NACCA Region (Northern Andes, Caribbean & Central America).
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in environmental management, business or public administration, finance, international relations, sustainable development, social sciences, or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in providing strategic support to partnerships, project structuring and/or management, resource mobilization or development finance in the context of carbon markets or market-based mechanisms for conservation.
Relevant experience and understanding of carbon registry requirements, methodologies, and legal frameworks is an advantage.
Ability to create high quality written documents (proposals and deliverables) in English and Spanish.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of forestry, natural resource management, regenerative agriculture, ecosystems services, conservation, climate change and/or sustainable development issues and policy trends across the Latin America region.
Experience in AFOLU project origination consistent with VCM, jurisdictional (ie JNR, CAR and ART TREES) and/or other global carbon standards.
Knowledge of the carbon market and carbon project development is an advantage.
Experience in the Latin America region desirable, as well as experience in international development, environmental conservation/restoration, agriculture.
