About the Position 

I4DI is seeking a seasoned Associate Director of Business Development to lead and oversee our US Government business development initiatives, proposal management, and strategic growth efforts. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy and Growth Officer, the Associate Director of Business Development will play a pivotal role in executing I4DI’s strategic vision, identifying and securing business opportunities, particularly with USAID, spearheading proposal management, and supporting the firm's revenue growth. The role requires a deep understanding of the US Government marketplace, I4DI's capabilities, the ability to identify and cater to client needs, and the expertise to provide technical and strategic support to various I4DI teams.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Process Management (40%):
  • Oversee the entire business development process, ensuring streamlined and efficient delivery of new business concept notes, proposals, and other related deliverables.
  • Develop and refine business development strategies, tools, and guidelines to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Analyze business development activities, conduct forecasting, and provide regular reports to senior management on growth metrics and opportunities.
  • Represent I4DI at industry events, conferences, and seminars, championing the company’s expertise and building strategic partnerships.

 

  • Proposal Management & Business Development (40%):
  • Lead the end-to-end proposal development process, ensuring alignment with I4DI’s core focus areas and service offerings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and teaming partners to gather technical inputs and other relevant data for proposals.
  • Monitor various online portals for potential funding opportunities that resonate with I4DI’s mission.
  • Coordinate with the business development team to meet proposal deadlines and ensure compliance with RFP guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain standardized proposal templates, tools, and other collateral products to meet the general requirements of potential clients.

 

  • Team Mentorship & Client Engagement (20%):
  • Mentor and guide junior team members, providing strategic guidance and fostering professional growth.
  • Prepare for and lead client or partner meetings, ensuring effective communication and alignment with I4DI’s mission and capabilities.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential business opportunities and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Engage in continuous learning opportunities, attending workshops, webinars, and training sessions to enhance business development skills and knowledge.

 

 

Qualifications

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, International Relations, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of experience in business development, particularly with USAID, proposal management, and strategy in a similar role within the international development sector.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven track record of securing business opportunities and driving revenue growth.

 

Preferred Additional Experience:

     Some familiarity with, or experience working in one or more of I4DI’s Focus Areas: MEL, Urban Development, Sustainability and            Climate, and Impact Technology.

  • Experience with grant-making or proposal processes of foundations, non-profits, foreign donor agencies, and corporations.

This position is based at I4DI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. and may involve in-person meetings with clients and team members. I4DI follows a hybrid work model, combining three days of in-office work per week with telework.
