Position description

By 2030, 150 million people are able to prevent or resolve their most pressing justice problems. Do you want to join us on our mission?

HiiL (The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law) is a civil society organisation committed to closing the justice gap. We do this by helping to develop and implement people-centred justice. That means justice that is affordable, accessible and easy to understand. To make that transformation we must put people and the outcomes they need at the centre, not institutions and existing procedures. We are friendly rebels focused on concrete improvements in the lives of people. Data and evidence are central in all that we do. We work to stimulate innovation and to scale what works best. We bring stakeholders together to make it happen.

HiiL has started a new phase of the Syria Justice Innovation Process (SJIP) funded by the European Union, with Lebanon serving as the operational base. We are seeking an experienced Sub-Grant Coordinator (40 hours/ week) to map, identify, coach and monitor several subgrants inside and outside Syria.

Do you have a broad and flexible toolkit of techniques, resolving complex, interdependent activities into tasks and subtasks that are documented, monitored and controlled? Can you shift readily between the “big picture” and the “small-but-crucial” details? Do you enjoy work under pressure and are you comfortable with change and complexity in a very dynamic international environment? Are you familiar with the public sector and social innovation? If your answer to these questions is “yes”, then we are searching for you.

How will you contribute to HiiL’s mission:

  • You monitor the deliverables of the sub-grantees and report accordingly;
  • You ensure that sub-grants comply with HiiL and EU donor rules and regulations;
  • You pro-actively mitigate risks and change requests in order to be administratively compliant;
  • You provide timely and quality reporting to management and donors;
  • You design and deliver training to help subgrantees develop a growth, implementation and financing plan, and a fundraising pitch (TBC).

What we look for in our new colleague:

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences/project management;
  • You have at least five (+5) years of relevant experience in project management or grants management within an international organisation;
  • You speak fluently English and Arabic, both verbal and in writing;
  • You have previously worked on projects for Syria;
  • You have experience with EU grants, and preferably also working experience in Non-Governmental Organisations;
  • Experience working in sensitive context;
  • You have a strong leadership and team building skills as well as a high level of ethics and integrity;
  • You have experience in delivering training around growth, implementation and financing plan, and fundraising pitch is a plus.

Do you value:

  • An opportunity to be at the forefront of making people-centred justice happen;
  • An organisational culture where motivation prevails; the work that we do is meaningful and contributes to changing people’s lives;
  • Becoming part of a dynamic and international team of 70+ professionals;
  • An environment that is bound to further improve your professional skills;

What we offer:

  • A service provider agreement for a period of 12 months with the aim of building a long-term work relationship (subject to project and funding availability);
