Position description
The Bretton Woods Committee (BWC), the preeminent non-profit organization dedicated to effective global economic and financial cooperation, seeks a Membership Manager to join our team and oversee department operations and high-value member relationships. This position will work very closely with the Director of Membership and Giving to develop and implement department strategy. The position includes direct responsibility for the execution and management of our organizational membership and major giving strategy/portfolios. This position also includes oversight of our individual membership strategy/portfolio, and the staff tasked with its execution – one membership associate and other part time staff.
This position is a mid-level management role and requires significant external outreach, communication, and customer service with existing members and new member prospects. Candidates who enjoy building relationships and have experience working with institutional/corporate executives and representatives are preferred. This position will report directly to the Director of Membership and Giving.
Responsibilities
Membership Department Operations:

- Work closely with the Director of Membership & Giving to develop department strategy and oversee the implementation of department strategy. This includes direct oversight of one membership associate and other part-time staff and all membership systems and processes.
- Provide direction and development opportunities for staff under management
- Assist the Director of Membership & Giving in liaising with the Board of Directors/Membership Committee
- Oversee department progress towards identified targets and revenue goals and identify and suggest course corrections when necessary
- Monitor and analyze revenue projections on a regular basis and report progress to the Director of Membership & Giving
Membership Engagement and Retention:
- Serve as the primary contact for a portfolio of assigned high value members. Portfolio will consist of members giving at the five-figure level + annually.
- Cultivate and sustain relationships by initiating regular touchpoints and by offering engagement opportunities and member benefits that provide value to members with member retention being the main objective.
- Help develop, plan, and execute individualized member-specific stewardship strategies
- Travel to meet with members documenting information gathered and conducting timely follow-up and regular relationship maintenance.
- Help plan and execute stewardship events (luncheons, dinners, receptions, salons etc. - some evenings and travel required)
- Explore new benefit programs that will enhance BWC’s value proposition
- Manage member renewal processes and timelines throughout the year
- Write correspondence including, but not limited to, solicitation letters, event invitations, periodic updates on our work, and thank you notes
- Ensure all fundraising and solicitation activities are captured in our CRM in a timely manner, including but not limited to member communication, solicitation activity, etc.
New-Member Prospecting:
- Develop and maintain prospect lists and coordinate outreach to grow portfolio of engaged companies who value the BWC mission.
- Speak confidently about our work, mission, and opportunities for member engagement.
- Anticipate questions and provide timely, accurate information to prospects and assist with their understanding of the value of membership in BWC
- Develop and maintain materials used for membership outreach
Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of prior work experience in fundraising, partnership development, business development, client management, or related field(s)
- Prior management experience
- Confident communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills and adept at communicating the organization's mission, interests, and impact and ability to craft compelling cases for support and engagement in written and verbal formats.
- Demonstrated success in a relationship management role, preferably in a policy-oriented environment, or a similar nonprofit.
- Demonstrated understanding of fundraising principles and a proven-track record of successfully securing 5 figure contributions and engaging and stewarding contributors in order to yield increased revenue in alignment with clear goals and objectives.
- Experience working in the context of senior officials and C-suite executives while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Possesses an innovative and forward-thinking approach to implementing successful fundraising and member relations strategies.
- Acute attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and maintain disciplined adherence to departmental and organizational goals.
- Proficiency in CRM database and Microsoft Office Suite
- Bachelor’s degree required. Masters degree preferred.
- Interest in global economic, financial issues and/or international development a plus.

Position is DMV-based. Staff are currently required to report to the office for two in-person days per week (subject to change).
Salary and Benefits
$65,000.00 - $85,000.00 dependent upon experience; employer sponsored health care, dental, & vision, 401k plan with employer match; paid vacation/sick leave; 15 paid holidays.
