Position description

The UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) is pleased to announce a one-year Assistant Adjunct Professorship for 2025-2026 in American Politics and Public Policy with the possibility of renewal. We welcome new or recent Ph.D. scholars with an interest in California state politics and policy. Degree must be completed by June 30, 2025.

The University of California Center, Sacramento (UCCS) is a system-wide program of the University of California. Since its inception in 2004, the program has offered UC students from across the 10-campus system opportunities to study public policy through seminars and internships in and around the state Capitol. The Center also serves as a conduit through which research-based knowledge generated on the 10 campuses is disseminated to lawmakers, legislative staff, and executive branch officials.

The Assistant Adjunct Professor will be responsible for teaching Political Science undergraduate Courses, including but not limited to courses on California policy and politics and on policy research and analysis, as well as performing administrative duties assigned as part of the UCCS academic and leadership team. Duties include teaching at least four undergraduate courses per year, mentoring undergraduate students engaged in research, and in addition, to contribute materially towards the Center's mission to increase student and alumni outreach, enhance the student experience, and expand the Center's research and knowledge sharing function.

The Assistant Adjunct Professor will have primary responsibility for translational research work including writing and/or oversight of policy briefs, research poster compilations, and oversight of UCCS' internal e-publication journal through the California Digital Library. This is in addition to independent research work related to candidate's own research interests that will be evaluated at the time of possible merit review and/or re-appointment. Support for UC Center Sacramento's evidence-based knowledge sharing activities including the UC Center Sacramento Wednesday Speaker Series. Will be responsible for mentoring UC Center Sacramento undergraduate and graduate students beyond classroom related activities. As part of the Center's service responsibilities, will also serve on any UC Center Sacramento's knowledge sharing and student focused selection committees.

The appointment will be housed at UCCS located in Sacramento, California. This is an in-person full-time position. In evaluating the candidates, the following criteria will be used: coursework and demonstrated knowledge of American Politics and public policy; quality of the graduate training program; demonstration of teaching ability; experience with research methods and evidence-based policy analysis; letters of recommendation; ability to complete degree before appointment; and interview. An acquaintance with California politics and policy making, policy research design and conduct, quantitative methods, and working with a diverse student body is considered advantageous. A reasonable estimated salary range for this position is $78,200 - $86,600, plus benefits.
