Position description

Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is a world-renowned independent policy institute. Based in London, our mission is to help build a sustainably secure, prosperous and just world.
Chatham House work on the Middle East and North Africa focuses on the latest political, economic and security developments in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen, as well as trends in the Gulf states, Iran, and North African countries.
We are seeking an Iraq specialist, preferably with a background in international relations. 
The purpose of this dynamic position is to play a leading role in the MENA Programme’s research on Iraq. 
Dedicated and self-motivating, you will have produced rigorous scholarship and have experience in fundraising for research projects, project management and donor liaison, and a strong regional and international network of policy and other partners and contacts.

As part of the role, we expect you to:
-Conduct field research throughout your projects.
-Participate in the design, leadership and management of research projects.
-Be actively involved in research project fundraising. 
-Write and publish research papers and policy briefs.
-Deliver policy briefings to a variety of partners including UK government representatives, foreign governments, corporate sector representatives and NGO representatives.
-Respond to media enquiries sensitively and appropriately.
-Convey complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences in oral and written formats, tailoring content and approach accordingly.

Requirements
Essential:
-You can demonstrate a track record of policy-relevant research on Iraq.
-You have experience of working in a policy-relevant setting.
-You have a track record of engaging with the media and public speaking.
-You have experience of engaging with corporations through briefings and meetings with the aim of raising funds.
-You have experience of writing concept notes and submitting proposals for grants.
-You possess in-depth knowledge of Iraqi politics, Iraq's relationships with neighbouring countries, and understanding of British, American and European policies towards Iraq.
-You are fluent in the Arabic and English languages.
-You have a PhD in International Relations or Middle East Studies with an Iraq focus
-You are dedicated and enthusiastic in your professional approach.
-You possess a collegiate and reciprocal attitude.
-You are organized, a problem solver and eager to learn and expand your knowledge and skills in a stimulating environment. 

Desirable:
-You have successfully led policy research projects.
-Other Middle Eastern language skills would be a bonus.

Salary: £39,000-£47,000 per annum dependent on experience
