About the Position: The purpose of this role is to lead the recruitment and vetting of applicants for the Atlas Corps Fellowship. The key responsibilities of the Program and Communication Associate include communications to potential candidates for the Fellowship, managing our online application process, managing volunteers, and supporting Fellows during their training programs. The Program and Communication Associate will report to the Senior Program Director.



Communications Responsibilities: The Program and Communication Associate supports the social media, email, and web-based efforts for international promotion of the Fellowship to potential applicants.

  • Collaborates closely with the Communications Department to manage promotion campaigns across media including prioritizing number and type of communications, determining schedule of campaigns, and coordinating full life-cycle of promotion.
  • Produces or assists with promotional materials, including shareable graphics for social media.
  • Builds relationships strong referral and partnership networks and cultivates relationships with potential future candidates.
  • Conducts research on general recruitment trends and best practices for specific countries, regions, skill sets, etc.
  • Develops creative approaches to attract hard-to-reach populations.
  • Collaborates closely with the Partnerships Director and team to streamline recruitment efforts and align cross-departmental efforts and priorities.
  • Collects and analyzes data to monitor and improve the effectiveness of communications campaigns. 

Project Management Responsibilities: The Program and Communication Associate coordinates recruitment and vetting of a diverse pool of approximately 10,000 applications each year from talented mid-career international professionals.

  • Manages vetting of applicants to ensure the most qualified candidates advance to the next stage of the selection process.
  • Manages communication to applicants.
  • Collaborates closely with the Partnerships Director and team to ensure candidates with desirable profiles proceed through the steps of the vetting process efficiently.
  • Manages the involvement of the Selection Board, made up of approximately 100 volunteers who review applications and interview applicants.
  • Manages interns who assist with application vetting.
  • Collects and analyzes data to monitor and improve the effectiveness of vetting processes.
  • Creates organizational systems to make vetting and selection processes smoother and more user-friendly.

Fellow Support Responsibilities: The Program and Communication Associate will share responsibility for Fellow support with other members of the Program Department:

  • Work with the Program and Partnerships Departments to conduct Initial and Mid-Fellowship Site Visits for assigned Fellows.
  • Support the logistics of executing Global Leadership Lab events, including Orientation and Immersion.


Responsibilities of all Team Members: 

  • Commit to team goals and support the work of colleagues beyond the responsibilities described here. This may include attending events outside of business hours, supporting the Fellow screening process by conducting interviews and reviewing applications; preparing new Fellow housing; and greeting Fellows at the airport.
  • Maintain all physical and digital files in a uniform way, and in alignment with government requirements.
  • Support Atlas Corps fundraising initiatives by sharing opportunities to contribute to our mission through social media and other channels.
  • Seek out opportunities to improve and expand the work of Atlas Corps.
  • Seek out opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge, and grow professionally.

As a prerequisite, the ideal candidate will believe in the mission of Atlas Corps and share our vision of developing the largest and best multilateral exchange for nonprofit professionals. Due to State Department requirements, this candidate must be a U.S. citizen.

Additional requirements are:

  • 1-3 years of work experience. National or international service experience, including AmeriCorps*VISTA and the Peace Corps, is highly desirable.
  • Communication skills, experience, or aptitude: ability to design and execute marketing, communications, and public relations activities.
  • Project management skills, experience, or aptitude: the ability to follow established processes with accuracy and efficiency and develop new protocols that improve efficiency.
  • Proficiency with managing content and activities on social media platforms.
  • Strong professional writing skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Internationally-Minded: Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills; proven ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Action-Oriented: Enjoys working hard and working towards stretch goals; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available.
  • Strategic and Agile: Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plans

Preferred, but not required:

  • Skills, experience, or aptitude in analytics and data management in order to drive recruitment campaigns.
  • Knowledge of and/or the ability to quickly become familiar with Google applications, Salesforce, Vertical Response, SplashThat, Wordpress, social media, or other related technologies.
  • Creativity: entre/intrapreneurial orientation to problem-solving is highly preferred.
  • Skills, experience, or aptitude in editing photos, creating graphics, editing videos, and using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.
