The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI), an initiative of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, draws on lessons from tobacco control campaigns in more than 60 countries to drive policy change campaigns focused other public health issues around the globe to improve health. The Associate Director for Advocacy within the Epidemic Preparedness Team (AD-EP) joins a dynamic and growing team advancing efforts to train and support non-governmental organization (NGO) partners working to improve critical public health policies in specific low-and middle-income countries. The Associate Director works closely with the Director and works in partnership with NGOs and multilateral organizations to support the Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) Prevent Epidemics Program to help strengthen public health infrastructure to prevent, detect and respond to major infectious disease outbreaks in line with the Global Health Security Agenda. The AD-PE will aid these efforts by creating demand among the public and policymakers for domestic investments in epidemic preparedness. Accordingly, the AD-EP must demonstrate a well-developed understanding of advocacy, be a self-starter with strong project management skills and have the ability to work within cross-functional teams, with a demonstrated commitment to training and capacity building for our partners in Africa.
The Associate Director for Epidemic Preparedness, reports to the Director and must have familiarity with global health security and epidemic preparedness policies, a key area of GHAI’s partnership with Resolve To Save Lives.
The AD-EP will work closely with the Director and GHAI RTSL Prevent Epidemics and Cardiovascular Health teams to provide advocacy support by: mapping the political landscape; identifying allies, champions, and adversaries; and identifying local partners with whom the GHAI team can work to support health security investments. This support may include policy/advocacy training, public health finance advocacy training, media campaigns, journalism training, and related efforts.
