Position description

The European and International Booksellers Federation (EIBF) is a non-commercial European and international umbrella organisation representing national booksellers’ associations and booksellers around the world. Through its member associations, EIBF speaks on behalf of more than 25.000 individual booksellers.

EIBF is looking for a Policy Assistant to support its activities. The selected candidate will assist the Policy Advisor in his daily work with tasks including monitoring relevant policy files for the book sector and lobby-oriented tasks towards the EU institutions.

The Policy Assistant will help read, analyse and summarise policy documents, and will be involved in the compilation of explanatory notes for EIBF members. They will also be expected to conduct research on book-specific topics and work on member-specific requests, as well as attend relevant sector-related events and prepare follow-up notes and reports.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the work of the Policy Advisor, following relevant policy files, lobbying the EU institutions, drafting policy briefings and reports for members and conducting relevant research.

Qualifications

  • Graduate in European studies, political science, international relations or other relevant fields.
  • Excellent command of written and oral English is a must; other European languages are an asset.
  • Relevant experience in EU affairs and an interest in the cultural and creative sectors, particularly the book sector.
  • A thorough understanding of the EU decision-making process is important, as well as experience in monitoring and analysing EU legislative proposals.
  • Good research, analytical and organisational skills. Ability to summarise and draft briefings or reports.
  • Computer literate (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet research, etc.).
  • Familiar with using social media tools. Knowledge of communication software for professional purposes is an asset.
  • Team player, but able to work independently on given tasks. Capable of prioritising tasks.

What we offer:

  • A unique opportunity to gain experience in EU policy, and lobbying for a great product - books - at a challenging yet exciting time for the bookselling industry.
  • A salary package with benefits in line with the experience of the selected applicant.
  • A six-month contract (contrat à durée determinée, CDD) with possibility of extension, after discussion between both parties.
  • The experience of working in a small, young, international and multicultural team.
