Position description

The Public Affairs practice at Powell Tate has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Associate, Public Affairs to join our team. We are looking for a collaboration-minded person with expertise in successfully engaging in government, policy and community programs, as well as media relations skills to help support a variety of accounts.
 

Job description:

  • Provide operational support on client projects, as directed
  • Share results of the work in a structured way via activity reports and/or client summaries
  • Engage, as appropriate, with client contacts
  • Support multiple client programs
  • Support development of public relations and media relations action plans, including goals and objectives, media targets, pitch angles and engagement approaches that require input from mid-level to senior team leadership
  • Monitor media and develop/distribute internal media monitoring reports, leveraging media monitoring tools
  • Accurately maintain executional tools, trackers and reporting Perform issues-based research and develop fact sheets or scenario summaries to senior team
  • Serve as coordinator for timelines and weekly action plans to ensure all media-centric deadlines on client programs are met
  • Proactively offer solutions for executional issues specific to assigned programs
  • Policy and stakeholder research, supporting analysis for clients
  • Support drafting and development of written content for web, social, press and stakeholders with direction from senior team, employing good writing principles and AP style
  • Conduct stakeholder research and analysis in support of senior team to inform stakeholder engagement, community relations or public affairs strategies
  • Monitor, report and track developments, trends and issues in key subject areas based on client needs
  • Support execution of public affairs or community relations events and programming, including conferences, press events and public forums or town hall meetings

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of communications experience, preferably in a government or public affairs environment, developing media and stakeholder relations skills and relationships at the local, regional and federal level
  • Previous experience in healthcare, financial services, government and/or community development
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills; verbal and written
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills
  • Open to giving and receiving constructive and respectful feedback in a timely manner
  • Desire to continuously learn new skills and knowledge, and willingness to always share skills and knowledge with team members as well as clients Commitment to personal accountability
  • At least a Bachelor's degree preferably in communications, journalism, international relations, public affairs, political science or a related field
  • Active, curious consumer of news and information impacting local, regional and national issues and policy
  • An analytical mind with an ability to cut through information and find what really matters to clients
  • Campaign experience, either for a political candidate or policy organization
  • Experience working in public affairs, either at an agency or in-house
