Position description
Missing Children Europe is looking to recruit a versatile and creative Communications Officer (maternity cover) to maintain and drive forward external communication efforts, support fundraising, and improve awareness for the organisation during the maternity leave of the current officer.
The Communications Officer (maternity cover) will report to the Secretary General and support the execution of external communications, awareness-raising, marketing, and press activities, based on the 2022-2025 communication strategy. The Communications Officer will closely cooperate with the Senior Partnership and Fundraising Officer.
Tasks
Implementing the 2022-2025 Communications Strategy:
- Ensure that all external communications align with the organisation’s communication strategy and objectives;
- Maintain the consistency and strength of the organisation’s brand in all internal and external efforts;
- Ensure inclusive communications, particularly those targeting children, in collaboration with them to ensure child-friendliness.
Coordinating External Communication:
- Oversee ongoing organisational branding efforts;
- Coordinate content production, design, and printing of the annual Figures & Trends and Annual Review Report;
- Create and disseminate social media content;
- Manage the organisation’s main website and project-related websites;
- Draft press releases, newsletters, opinion pieces, and more;
- Monitor media and report on communication campaigns, social media reach, engagement, and Google Analytics;
- Raise public and political awareness about missing children, e.g., through International Missing Children’s Day and other campaigns;
- Support proactive media relations through press engagement and distribution of materials;
- Organise and implement national and EU-wide communication campaigns for various projects and events, and manage collaborative communication campaigns with external partners;
- Manage relationships with external suppliers such as photographers, videographers, designers, and agencies;
- Collaborate with communications agencies and help organise campaign pitches.
Coordinating Internal Communication:
- Update the content on the newly-implemented Extranet platform for member organisations and support members as first-time users.
Supporting Fundraising:
- Coordinate advertising campaigns on social media;
- Assist in the marketing and communication aspects of fundraising events and campaigns;
- Support the development of concept notes and grant proposals.
Required Profile, Skills, and Background
- Higher degree in communication, marketing, press relations, or a related field;
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience;
- Native-level proficiency in English;
- Experience managing social media profiles and content;
- Designing skills using Canva, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator;
- Video creation and editing experience is a plus (Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut);
- Knowledge of website management (WordPress);
- Understanding of and interest in children’s rights and child protection issues;
- Ability to work proactively and take initiative;
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently;
- Ability to work well in a small team with diverse professional and cultural backgrounds;
- Positive attitude, adaptable, and open to feedback;
- Ability to work creatively within budget constraints;
- Legal authorisation to work in Belgium.
