The International Law Students Association (ILSA) is a small non-profit organization in Washington, DC, whose mission is to promote the study and understanding of international law; ILSA accomplishes this by providing law students with opportunities to study, research, and network in the international legal arena. The organization’s activities include academic conferences, publications, the global coordination of student organizations, and the administration of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the world’s largest law school moot court competition.

The Program Associate will work with ILSA’s constituents around the world, managing and continuing to build external relationships with program participants, volunteers, partners and sponsors. The position will interact with law students, lawyers, scholars and professors participating in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, assist with preparing monthly newsletters, identify new program participants and sponsors, develop and execute outreach strategies, oversee the organization’s social media presence, prepare articles for the organization’s website and help promote the organization’s activities and global presence.

The ideal applicant will be bright and highly motivated, with experience and skill in communications, social media, project management, and event coordination. The main responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Communicating with program participants;
  • Developing incentives for new program participants and sponsors;
  • Designing, updating and producing monthly newsletter, as well as other creative digital and print content;
  • Assist in drafting and updating articles and other content to be used in ILSA publications, and on website and social media;
  • Organize and help coordinate United States regional moot court competitions and events;
  • Manage consultant and hotel contracts for regional moot court competitions;
  • Travel to annual conference in New York City and support conference registration and other on-site efforts;
  • Help organize and run annual 800 person-plus event in Washington, DC;
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned;
  • Assist in selecting and supervising interns and volunteers


  • Bachelor's degree in communications, media or other related field
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently, while managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to anticipate tasks and take initiative
  • Comfort with decision-making, problem-solving and troubleshooting
  • Strong writing/grammar skills
  • Flexibility to take on other duties as assigned
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact with students and lawyers all over the world and to be flexible and work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel occasionally and work on weekends a few times a year
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (non-US citizens must possess work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship for a visa) 

Preferred Skills: 

  • At least one year of communications-focused work experience
  • Experience in non-profit programs and event planning
  • Experience with mass email marketing systems (MailChimp, etc.)
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premier)
  • Experience with print production, photo editing and video editing/production
