Reporting to the Director of International Admissions, the
International Admissions Counselor
positively contributes to the day-to-day international admissions activities required to meet the annual international undergraduate and graduate student enrollment goals.
The International Admissions Counselor is expected to contribute to the continuing success of international admissions at the University of Bridgeport by working on all aspects of the international admissions process. This includes activities such as developing leads and working with prospective students through the entire admissions process; developing relationships with other organizations in the U.S. and abroad; creating and editing marketing materials; evaluating ROI for strategic recruiting initiatives and working with international agents.
The International Admissions Counselor will be required to travel in support of international admissions. Effective communication with undergraduate and graduate faculty and participation in the training of staff, alumnae, and student workers involved with the international admissions process is paramount.
The International Admissions Counselor works collaboratively with the International Affairs staff on projects and events to ensure the overall success of the International Admissions team.
The incumbent will have knowledge of computer databases, information systems, and new technologies; utilization of the web for recruitment is essential. Familiarity with the Datatel Student Records Management System is considered a plus.
The International Admissions Counselor must feel comfortable representing the University regionally, nationally and internationally and be willing and able to travel abroad once a formal training program has been completed, and the candidate is certified to recruit internationally by the Director of International Admissions.
The International Admissions Counselor may be called upon to represent the University of Bridgeport at professional regional and national conferences and should be familiar with the ethical guidelines set forth by the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA); make frequent admissions presentations at secondary and post-secondary schools and at receptions for students and parents, counselors and alumnae; interview prospective students; and perform various other duties as needed related to general international admissions activities.
Familiarity with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is considered a plus.
Bachelor’s degree required preferably in Education, Business or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in admissions;
1-2 years of experience working in admissions activities or an equivalent combination of education and experience; the ideal candidate will have some prior experience working with international students;
Evening and weekend work is required for special events and programming;
Must possess a valid passport and be willing to travel abroad internationally for an extended period of time as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with and understanding of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
Ability to analyze data and reports and develop strategic plans based on research.
Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively with Deans, faculty, administrators, and external constituents.
Ability to multitask with excellent organizational skills.
Skilled in developing and meeting aggressive timetables for multiple projects.
Ability to work both independently and on a team.
This position requires a valid driver’s license and driving record which complies with University of Bridgeport driving policy and accessibility to transportation for travel between campuses and to off-site locations.
