CARE is seeking a Humanitarian Communications Manager who will generate visibility for CARE’s humanitarian relief work and initiatives, build CARE’s global communications capacity during emergencies and enhance the organization’s overall reputation.  S(he) will do so by:  developing CARE’s communications strategy for emergencies, assuring CARE’s strong presence in media coverage of emergencies and overseeing the collection of assets such as stories and videos. S(he) will develop communications plans for trips taken by CARE USA senior leadership, celebrities and influencers to humanitarian hotspots. This role also is responsible for acting as a media spokesperson for CARE and providing communications, media and storytelling training for staff.

This role: develops relationships with media and pitches stories and content directly to media titles and outlets; helps build relationships with celebrities and influencers with an interest in humanitarian and emergency response work; and trains CARE staff in emergency storytelling.

This person should be prepared for deployment to CARE’s emergency responses in support of communications. S(he) also is responsible for developing materials for use around disaster anniversaries and other emergency-focused efforts. In between emergencies, s(he) provides general support of Communications & Media Team priorities.

  • Leads the planning for all content capture and media coverage for CARE USA’s leadership travel to humanitarian hotspots (namely CEO, COO and select other EMT members). Plays a similar role for celebrities and influencers traveling to see humanitarian and emergency response work.

  • College degree, preferably in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations
  • At least five years in media or public relations positions
  • Strong English language written and oral communications skills; well organized in high paced environment
  • Adept at using major social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
