We are searching for…

The Policy Writer will work with Search’s Global Affairs and Partnerships Team, based in Washington, DC, as well as our team in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to produce policy white papers focused on DRC.

Your contribution

This individual will work with Search’s Global Affairs and Partnerships (GAP) Team, which is responsible for Search’s global policy research and advocacy work. In this role, the Policy Writer produce professional-quality policy content focused on the Democratic Republic of Congo. He or she will work with our local team in DRC and our policy staff in Washington to convert field-based research and data into final policy white papers. This will include reviewing drafts of policy papers in French from our local team, providing feedback to strengthen the materials, developing recommendations for international policymakers based on the local analysis, and finalizing the product in English. 

The ideal candidate is a junior- or mid-level consultant, who will spend approximately 30-40 hours of work over a 6-month period on this project. This consultancy may be extended or renewed, pending performance and continuation of donor support.

Responsibilities for this position:

  • Conduct desk and in-person research on existing peacebuilding policy advocacy efforts and responses with regard to the DRC
  • Conduct desk and in-person research on conflict dynamics and opportunities for improved policies to respond to conflict dynamics in DRC
  • Edit draft policy white papers 
  • Develop policy recommendations for target audiences in Washington, DC, New York, Brussels, and/or other policy hubs


Minimum Qualifications for This Position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, international relations, conflict resolution, or a relevant subject.
  • Excellent written communication and editing skills. 
  • Experience producing written content designed to shift international policies on conflict environments.
  • Experience engaging policymakers within the US government or other international policymakers on conflict issues and/or DRC.
  • Native-speaker level fluency in English.
  • Fluency in written French.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.

The ideal candidate will further exhibit:

  • Experience producing policy white papers.
  • Familiarity with conflict dynamics in DRC.
  • Experience working in or with an international organization or in a policy role.

Pay is commensurate with knowledge and experience. There is no geographic requirement for this position, and travel is not anticipated.
