The United Nations Operations and Crisis Centre (UNOCC) internships are for an initial period of three (3) months with an opportunity for an extension of up to three (3) months, depending on the needs of the office.
This position is located in the UNOCC Watch Room, which is part of the UN system’s 24/7 situational awareness and crisis management hub at Headquarters.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.
Please note that the internship will be valid only as long as the intern is enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school, or graduated within 12 months of the start of the internship.

Under the overall supervision of the Manager of the UNOCC Watch Room, and in close consultation with the Project Officer, the Intern will:
• Support the drafting and formatting of meeting minutes, outcome notes, briefings, profiles, visual aids and presentations to UN senior leadership
• Assist with open source monitoring work
• Support with the organization of crisis meetings and assist in organizing crisis simulation exercises
• Support the UNOCC in maintaining databases on incidents; and
• Undertake other assignments as required.

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
Field of study to be preferably in political science, history, international relations, law or a related field;
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Internship Programme.
Strong skills in using Microsoft software packages, especially PowerPoint, is required.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language, such as Arabic or French, is an advantage.
Duration of need: minimum of three months to a maximum of six months.
