The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 15 countries and at over 7,000 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and to help those already infected. Today, because of the highly successful work of the Foundation and its partners, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States. With a growing global staff of over 2,800—nine of 10 who work in the field—the Foundation’s global mission is to implement HIV prevention, care, and treatment programs; further advance innovative research; and to execute strategic and targeted global advocacy activities to bring dramatic change to the lives of millions of women, children, and families worldwide.
Working at the intersection of technology, programs, and data, the mission of the Informatics Unit is to enable the Foundation to use data more efficiently and effectively by operationalizing standard and proven approaches to capturing, storing, and learning from data. The Data Solutions Developer will work as a key member of the Foundation’s Strategic Information and Evaluation Informatics Unit, under the leadership of the Director of Informatics. He/she will provide technical and programmatic leadership of informatics solutions to global and HQ staff.
A major portion of the role will be to provide technical assistance to EGPAF country teams in the development, implementation, and maintenance of DHIS2 local instances. Country teams interested in DHIS2 will look to this developer for expertise in needs assessment, planning, and implementation.
Outside of DHIS2, the Developer is expected to help the Unit develop data models for country teams to build visualizations and dashboards, and to work with both HQ and country staff to bolster the efficiency and capacity of in-country data systems with the goal of enabling simple data access and meaningful data learning and use.
Support the Informatics Director in the designing, planning, and implementation of the Informatics Strategy as it pertains to DHIS2.
Support country teams with all aspects of DHIS2 including needs assessment, planning, design, customization, implementation, training, and technical support.
Develop complex data models using Microsoft Power BI based on a variety of data sources
Design and develop data collection tools using Excel and various mHealth tools, as well as new and emerging related technologies.
Provide technical assistance in the design, development, and documentation of in-country data systems including data flow, data storage, and data use.
Support the development of the necessary systems, processes, and tools to better support the facilitation, collection, and sharing of knowledge that is generated by the programs;
Work collaboratively with members of EGPAF’s global teams.
The Data Modeling and Visualization Developer will be thoroughly committed to EGPAF’s strategy and mission.
Graduate degree, either in computer science; or health, development or international relations with a strong foundation in data analytics.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in informatics-related field, preferably in an international health setting.
Expertise in DHIS2 development required, including but not limited to:
implementing and maintaining DHIS2 both in the cloud and on premise
expertise in the functionality of the API
familiarity with the backend of DHIS2
Expertise in Microsoft Power Query strongly preferred.
Expertise in advanced Excel capabilities, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and Power Pivot preferred.
Excellent analytical skills and experience in database management systems.
Experience in R or Python a plus but not required.
Strong attention to detail.
Understanding of PEPFAR/USG reporting requirements and systems (DATIM, DHIS2, etc.) preferred.
Ability to think strategically and translate that into practical implementation.
Superior listening skills and ability to understand user requirements and translate them into solutions.
Motivated, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for EGPAF’s mission and commitment to working collaboratively with a management team.
Ability to communicate with a range of colleagues across diverse countries and cultures.
Ability and willingness to travel to Africa up to 20%.
