Position description

Uganda Hands for Hope is looking for a new general manager to lead our work supporting the most vulnerable children and their families living in Namuwongo slum.

The General Manager will be responsible for management and coordination of the organisation’s daily operations including programme and financial management, fundraising, donor liaison and partnership development, staff/volunteer management and communications. About Uganda Hands for Hope (UHfH): 

Uganda Hands for Hope (UHfH), founded in 2008, is a registered NGO working to support vulnerable children and their families that live in Namuwongo Slum, Kampala. In 2019, we now educate and support over 350 children and their families. 250 of these children attend our own school (nursery and primary), whilst the remaining attend other local schools. As well as schooling, we also run numerous programmes to support the community as a whole. Our aim is to alleviate poverty and facilitate lasting change in the lives of the most vulnerable children and families by providing support through education, health, nutrition and social care and livelihoods.   • A minimum of an Undergraduate (Bachelors) degree
  • At least four years relevant work experience in an area relevant to the role and/or UHfH’s work (i.e. international development, education/teaching, project management, social work and child development etc.)
  • Experience of managing and coaching senior managers and leading teams of 10+ people.
  • At least three years management/leadership experience
  • Commitment to UHfH’s mission, vision and values and the ability to work within a cross-cultural team and environment
  • Experience working in a developing country environment, preferably in Uganda or East Africa (desirable)
  • Experience teaching or working in a primary school environment (desirable)
  • Experience in generating income from a variety of sources including fundraising through individual donors, trusts and foundations, corporates etc. (desirable)
