The Program Assistant will provide support to program management and other program staff as they accomplish the mission of the Security Sector Capacity Development (SSCD) program, specifically the Conflict Management Training for Peacekeepers (CMTP) project.

This position reports to the Program Lead for Security Sector Capacity Development and is a part of the Curriculum and Training Design (CTD) team.  The CTD team creates and implements rigorous and sustainable transformative learning processes that strengthen the capacity of individual and institutional partners to build peaceful, equitable, just and inclusive societies. 

This is a Full-Time Term position.


The U.S Institute of Peace’s Center for Applied Conflict Transformation (ACT) is built on the premise that there are common tools and approaches to peacebuilding that are adaptive, but applicable to peacebuilding globally. ACT serves as the hub of the Institute’s common resources for governments, organizations, and individuals seeking to prevent, mitigate, and resolve violent conflict worldwide.


Grade 07, $45,972 - $47,504

The Institute uses the General Schedule salary tables for administering compensation. Offers of employment are determined based upon candidate qualifications, related experience, internal equity and amount budgeted for the position.


  • Supports the implementation of multifaceted training and education programs.
  • Coordinates and implements the logistics of programs, including travel bookings, authorizations, vouchers and reimbursements for the team and its partners.
  • Supports the management and execution of contracts including drafting and submitting contract language, completing requisitions, processing invoices, expenses, and receipts and monitoring payment of contractors.
  • Coordinates the knowledge management for the team, including research, data management and outreach to improve program tracking and capture lessons learned.
  • Develops, edits, and updates internal and external program documents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. This job requires occasional international travel.

  • Detailed oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and strong work ethic. Takes initiative.
  • B.A. required.
  • French proficiency a plus.
  • One (1) or more years related project and administrative experience, budgeting principles, program implementation, and coordination of major office activities.
  • Strong skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel, is a must.
  • Strong computer skills in database usage.
