Philanthropic Partnerships Group (PPG)
PPG is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual and institutional prospects. PPG collaborates with staff across the institution to carry out its responsibilities.


Position Overview
The Officer, Philanthropic Partnerships position is responsible for building and managing a portfolio of 50-60 prospects with the capacity for six and seven figure gifts. The goal is to maximize and leverage Pew's philanthropic potential in order to advance the organization's most critical projects.

We are seeking a donor-focused professional with fundraising experience and excellent written and verbal communications skills. The ideal candidate will be able to build successful working relationships with Pew's program experts and a variety of foundation donors and prospects.


The position is located in Pew's Washington, DC office and reports to the director, institutional giving.


  • Proactively manage a portfolio of 50-60 prospects by developing and executing strategies across Pew's programs, leading to the solicitation of significant gifts in the six and seven figure range.
  • Write and/or coordinate the writing and development of proposals, budgets, gift agreements, grant reports, project updates and thank you letters to cultivate, secure and steward contributions.
  • Actively report on progress to senior PPG staff, who are responsible for delivering information regarding prospects and donors to the Pew board and executive office. This includes providing information on a monthly and quarterly basis that is both qualitative and quantitative in nature related to all fundraising activities.
  • Identify and cultivate new relationships both internally and externally to grow the prospect portfolio for Pew.
  • Collaborate across the organization and develop extensive relationships within Pew's program areas to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of prospects.
  • Provide expertise and strategic counsel regarding new development opportunities for evolving programs
  • Participate fully in Pew's Salesforce constituent relationship management and PeopleSoft financial systems.


  • A Bachelor's degree is required, and 8 years of external fundraising experience in higher education, research, health, science, media, culture, or advocacy organizations, with a demonstrated track record of developing and advancing significant philanthropic investments through sophisticated relationship building.
  • Documented success personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies employing a moves management approach leading to successful closure of institutional gifts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to understand and translate Pew's mission and interests for donors and prospects with clarity and effectiveness and to develop complex presentation materials, proposals, budgets and other collateral that support this effort.
  • A donor-focused demeanor at all times. Able to build rapport and provide assistance to high-profile external constituents as well as internal staff.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, challenge conventional norms and try new approaches.
  • Strong relationship and partnership orientation. A team player with an institution-wide view. Respect for teamwork and appropriate communication and coordination with colleagues.

Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization. Able to develop and move projects forward with independence and autonomy.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties.
  • Excellent organization and project management capabilities, and able to identify and maximize resources to ensure the success of projects.
  • Discretion in handling and securing confidential information, as well as the ability to conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook and the ability to learn systems/technology used at Pew, including Adobe, Salesforce and PeopleSoft.

This position includes frequent travel to meet with donors and attend conferences. Most travel will be domestic within the US with some possibility of occasional international trips.
