The Department of History, Political Science, and Philosophy at University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in comparative politics and international relations, beginning August 16, 2020. Responsibilities include teaching typically two or three sections of an undergraduate introductory survey in comparative politics or international relations, and one or two undergraduate upper level courses per semester, using engaged learning strategies appropriate to the discipline and level. In addition, successful candidates for the position will be expected to produce research and productive scholarship and, after the first year, advise students, as well as perform service to the department, university, profession, and community. The department seeks a scholar broadly trained in non-Western comparative politics and international relations and capable of teaching courses in both. While specific research subfield specialization is open, we would welcome a candidate specializing in gender issues, transboundary issues, and/or cyber security studies. Ph.D. in Political Science or related discipline in hand is preferred; advanced ABD will be considered with evidence of degree completion by August 15, 2020. Evidence of productive scholarship or research potential is necessary. Successful candidates will demonstrate teaching excellence as instructor of record in courses on comparative politics and/or international relations. Experience teaching courses in both subfields will be preferred.
