Position description

The place of work is in the Vienna/Tysons Corner area and is Metro accessible on the Silver Line (Springhill Metro).

Position Summary:

The Site Lead oversees the Content Managers by providing guidance on the development and organization of content for the key focus area (Afghanistan). They are responsible for defining team priorities and maintaining appropriate organizational structure for information. Site Leads serve as functional and regional subject matter experts during meetings and briefings, and develop relationships through outreach and collaborative projects with individuals and organizations across the US government and other entities.

  • Ability to learn new software, navigate new digital tools, and apply them to current workflow

  • Familiarity of modern design standards and creation of simple, intuitive UI


Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experiential competency in international relations, foreign affairs, military affairs, and/or development

  • Experience working with US Government customers (including DoD, DoS, IC, interagency)

  • Ability to identify opportunities for new projects, partnerships, and initiatives

  • Familiarity and understanding of different histories, cultures, religions

  • Familiarity and experience performing research in social media environments and foreign-language media

  • Independence; willingness to go find answers for yourself

  • Sense of humor; ability to maintain an even keel in stressful situations

  • Willingness to innovate; ability to consider new workflows and strategies for project success


Language Skills:

  • Fluency in English

  • Dari/Pashtu knowledge



BA/BS/MS in foreign affairs and OCONUS work experience


Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to think through complex problems and provide multiple options for solutions

  • Ability to balance competing demands and appropriately prioritize time and effort

  • Ability to evaluate costs/benefits of alternative courses of action and select high utility choices


Mathematical Skills:

  • Understanding and application of basic statistical principles and methodologies
