Position description

In your role as Manager, Knowledge Management and Online Communities you will support the updated design, refresh, continued development, and evolution of the vibrant YouthLead.org (youthlead.org) and YouthPower.org (youthpower.org) platforms for the YouthPower 2 Learning and Evaluation (YP2LE) activity. You will support the thoughtful and intentional curation of existing content, and organize periodic user testing and market research to ensure that YouthLead.org and Youthpower.org content is suitable for the target audience. You will also have a significant role in overseeing content quality and functionality, as YouthLead.org and Youthpower.org must meet the needs of current users, attract new users, and remain up to date and accurate.

You will use your expertise to manage and contribute to the YouthLead, Youth Power, and other project-based youth-focused online communities, which aim to empower and engage community members and disseminate best practices, new innovations, and research into “what works” for youth. You will expand the breadth, depth, and reach of the communities and the platforms that support them by working with a variety of sponsors, youth networks, and youth development experts around the world to develop strategies for community engagement, and orchestrate content and outreach. You will also support YouthLead sponsors, including organizing stakeholder and sponsor meetings and reports and providing support for sponsor set up and use of the platform’s discussion groups feature. 

Lastly, in collaboration with the Communications Team, you will ensure the platforms and all relevant posts are social media friendly, employing a social media strategy that you play a lead role in developing. 

Specific tasks include:

• Create, manage, design, capture and/or curate and maintain engaging content (website, blogs, email newsletters, social media, etc.) that informs and motivates community members

• Vet and review community-submitted content

• Contribute to content promotion through social media channels and newsletter

• Support management of Communities of Practice, webinars, and other training/interactive approaches in collaboration with the YP2LE Youth Engagement Advisor

• Monitor online communities on YouthLead.org for changing trends in community management practices and respond by providing recommendations for modifications or improvement based on the trends

• Design, develop, and implement engagement activities to increase online community participation, raise platform awareness, and support online community growth initiatives by executing a communications plan and strategy that provokes activity, sparks discussion, and responds to community member’s needs.

• Develop a structure for benchmarking, analyzing and measuring online community activities

• Develop strategies to recruit new community members

• Manage a pool of interns, developing a strategy for their work as it relates to YouthLead.org and Youthpower.org content development, social media, and platform design

• Collaborate across the YP2LE team to ensure that content packaging aligns with best practices and is in compliance with USG/USAID regulations, including 508 compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 8 years’ experience OR master’s degree plus 5 years’ experience

• Demonstrated experience in building vibrant online communities

• Experience with designing and promoting social media campaigns

• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office applications

• Strong program and project management skills

• Strong analytical skills

• Proficient in content creation software
