Position description

As an Associate Director with IHS Markit’s Energy Advisory and EnergyView, you will be responsible for playing a key role in developing and maintaining market intelligence and research flow for our research and analytics services that cover a range of energy markets and industry trends for financial investors. You will be part of a growing team which aims to deliver visibility for our clients into the key trends driving energy markets and tackle the strategic issues that investors are grappling with as they invest in this space.


Your responsibilities

  • Take ownership over a market or sub-market within the scope of the Energy Advisory and EnergyView suite of energy services such as global oil and gas markets, North America oil and gas markets or global power and renewables.

  • Deliver clear, concise and actionable analysis and insight through both prepared and improvised client-facing meetings (via web conferences, phone calls or in person) and through written analysis, commentary and interpretation of market events and developing trends.

  • Support salespeople and product managers in sales meetings by providing commercial, actionable insights to prospects and clients that leverage your understanding of our suite of products and your subject matter expertise.

  • Collaborate with and advise our regional and functional teams on ways to make IHS Markit’s breadth and depth of energy research more relevant and actionable to a financial audience.

  • Lead and contribute to ad-hoc research projects and strategic papers.


Your team

You will be working in the Financial and Capital Markets team within the Energy division at IHS Markit, which is part of a globally distributed group of analysts, data scientists and product managers. The research team is made up of energy experts with varied subject matter expertise spanning the energy value chain. You will be based in Washington, DC or London.


  • 5+ years of extensive work experience in energy markets with specialist knowledge of one or more of the following focus areas: crude oil supply (US or global), midstream or downstream and refined products, natural gas markets, power (US or global) and renewables.

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, international relations, business administration, engineering or related fields. Graduate degree preferred.

  • Experience in market analysis and forecasting based on strong understanding of macro and micro trends affecting energy markets.

  • Impeccable writing and presentation skills in English. Additional spoken languages a plus.

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau is a plus.

  • Understanding of MS Access, SQL, and Python preferred.
