NYC Cyber Command was created in 2017 by Executive Order to lead the City’s cyber defense efforts, working across more than 100 agencies and offices to prevent, detect, respond, and recover from cyber threats. NYC Cyber Command is committed to protecting NYC infrastructure and critical systems from malicious attacks through the use of the latest technologies, public-private partnerships, and regular training and exercises for City employees.
The Senior Advisor for Threat Management will report directly to the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer for Threat Management and work closely with the NYC Cyber Command Chief of Staff on policy, governance, communication, and special projects on behalf of the Threat Management division. The Senior Advisor will assist in overseeing and supervising staff, including leading the division performance evaluation program and other human resource issues, stakeholder management efforts, and policy reviews. The Senior Advisor will also represent Threat Management at (and/or prepare the Deputy CISO and other senior staff for) meetings with elected and interagency officials, collecting and synthesizing complex policy information from divisions across the agency and drafting clear briefing materials on the Division's operations.
The Threat Management division oversees teams in Security Operations, Computer Emergency Response, Cyber Threat Intelligence and all functions of detection and response. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, experienced relationship builder who thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, results-driven environment.
The Senior Advisor to Threat Management MUST have a strong technical writing and editing background.
Bachelor’s degree with coursework in technical writing, political science, international affairs, cyber security, computer engineering, or computer science.
Familiarity with technical terms and concepts of cyber security to include threat management topics.
3 years experience in technical writing.
7 years experience in technical writing with published works.
Ability to achieve goals with minimal supervision; self-starter.
Master of Public Policy, Public Affairs, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
Policy expertise in the one or more of the following areas: information technology, cybersecurity, telecommunications, government administration, environment, public safety, and intergovernmental affairs.
Demonstrated experience with building relationships with a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent task management, information management, and organizational skills, as well as impeccable writing, copyediting, and proofreading skills.
Ability to gain the support of independent stakeholders.
