Position:  Development Director

Reports to:  Managing Director and ultimately, Executive Director

About the Freedom Initiative (Fi):

Fi is a leading independent human rights organization based out of Washington D.C. Founded in 2016 with a specialized focus on political prisoners in the Arab world, we advocate for political prisoners and the issues they represent through advocacy, individual casework, public relations, and legal action. We aim to work towards an Arab region that is free of political prisoners and rewards diversity of thought, belief, and orientation.

Description:

Fi is seeking a qualified applicant for the Development Director position to develop and implement fundraising strategy efforts to sustain the organization and its various departments.

The Development Director will ensure the highest standards of quality and efficacy for Fi's fundraising efforts and transform the organization's existing and future efforts throughout its growth. The position reports to the Executive Director and Managing Director of Fi and will be based in Washington DC.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and execute fundraising strategy to meet short and long-term fundraising goals;
  • Implement lean systems and processes to operationalize digital and in-person donations;
  • Manage portfolio of donors;
  • Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards fundraising goals;
  • Plan and execute fundraising events;
  • Manage grant writing and identification of new grant opportunities;
  • Collaborating with the communications team to develop digital fundraising strategy;
  • Furnishing board with regular progress reports;
  • Collaborating with network to identify and build relationships with new donors;
  • Generate donor communications, newsletters, and annual report;
  • Network and maintain regular correspondence with donors;
  • Develop weekly and monthly reports on fundraising efforts to the ED;
  • Carry out other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate's degree preferred;
  • Minimum five years of fundraising or non-profit experience;
  • Preferred but not required, strong interest and knowledge of MENA region.
  • Previous management experience a plus;
  • Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and securing major gifts;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • Strong project management skills with a "problem solving" orientation;
  • Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and communication skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple detail-oriented tasks and prioritize effectively;
  • Demonstrated strong critical thinking and analytical skills;
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment, across different time zones;
  • Ability to take the initiative to manage multiple, detail-oriented tasks simultaneously with limited supervision.

Qualifications

Travel:

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel up to 35% for this position.
