Position description

Wesleyan's Quantitative Analysis Center (QAC) and the Wesleyan Media Project (WMP) are seeking a one-year postdoctoral or predoctoral researcher to support research and teaching in the areas of survey research, computational social science, and applied data science.  The successful candidate will work in a research group with faculty and students in a lab-based model on designing and analyzing public opinion surveys, including topics related to the candidate's own interests, and may support grant-funded work on elections and issues related to health and social policy. The individual will also teach one class per semester (two per academic year). One of the classes will be an introduction to survey research methods, and the other class should be related to the theme of "Data and Democracy," which focuses on how quantitative data and computational methods can be used to study democratic processes, information, and outcomes in both the United States and globally. Candidates should include in their statement of teaching interests or cover letter a description of a course they might teach related to the "Data and Democracy" theme. The substantive focus of the course is open, although it should relate to democratic processes, information, or outcomes, broadly defined, and include a data analysis or computational component.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates with a Ph.D. in political science or related field are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have experience designing surveys and analyzing survey data and general training in quantitative analysis or computational methods. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in political science or related field in hand by the time of appointment to be hired as a Postdoctoral Fellow; a successful candidate may be hired as an Predoctoral Fellow if the candidate does not have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, but will complete the Ph.D. in political science or related field within one year of hire.
