JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Individual Major Gifts works on the Development Team and is charged with major gifts strategies and systems, running a portfolio of major donors, and supporting the VP of Strategic Partnerships and CEO in strategic outreach, cultivation and solicitation of lead donors. As a Director, Major Gifts program, this position is responsible for raising approximately $5-$7 million annually. This position requires living on the East Coast, preferably New York, and has availability to travel regularly to meet with donors, approximately 20% of the time.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·      Build and provide strategic leadership for the Major Gifts Program, including the development of annual communication, cultivation, and solicitation plans for the major donor base.

·      With the VP of Strategic Partnerships and Director of Individual Gifts based on the west coast, develop and oversee a comprehensive, regional annual plan for major gifts, including new strategies to increase giving from the current major donor pool and to increase the number of major donors.

·      Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of approximately 100 major donors and major donor prospects, with the capacity to make five and six figure gifts. Through cultivation and solicitation of these donors contribute substantially to raising revenue of $5 million + . Accounts may also include Institutional Partners when appropriate.

·      Ensure that all major donors receive appropriate, consistent engagement/acknowledgment and an accounting of the impact that their gift has on community needs annually.

·      Set strategies for upgrading major donors and for encouraging stretch

·      Ensure that the President and CEO’s time and that of other program staff is used strategically and efficiently for major donor fundraising.

·      Stay informed and knowledgeable about planned giving options for donors to the Global Fund. With the VP of Strategic Partnerships, work to grow and steward the Anne Firth Murray Circle of donors, who have made or plan to make bequest, legacy, or estate gifts to the Global

·      Stay informed and knowledgeable about Programmatic activities, maintaining the capacity to converse with donors about diverse areas of the Global Fund’s work.

·      With the VP of Strategic Partnerships, develop and manage the annual Individual Major Gifts budget to ensure that all Individual Major Gifts Program activities fall within the budget; monitor the income and expense projections for the Individual Major Gifts

·      Ensure donor and prospective data is properly recorded in the database and that all donor information is maintained with respect to

·      Maintain the integrity of donor relationships and the Global Fund for Women’s fundraising philosophy

SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP

·      Meet regularly with other GFW fundraising Directors to provide day-to- day leadership for the Development Team, along with the VP of Strategic Partnerships

·      Engage Program staff in donor outreach and provide mentorship on donor cultivation to them as needed.

·      Collaborate as needed with the Finance team and Grants Administration team on restricted gifts, planned gifts, special appeals, support for audit preparation, and reconciliations.

·      Support a learning environment within the Individual Major Gifts program and across the organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Required

·      Demonstrated successful skill and effectiveness in relationship building and solicitation of individual major donors

·      Experience leading international programs, movement building and/or strategic grantmaking to international organizations is highly desired.

·      Demonstrated ability to ask for and close gifts of five, six, and seven figures

·      Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with people from a wide diversity of backgrounds and cultures

·      An ability to think strategically and execute tactically

·      Demonstrated ability to supervise, develop, and engage staff, with a strong commitment to collaboration

·      A commitment to international women’s rights and a strong desire to support global women’s rights movements and women’s initiatives

·      Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

·      Flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced environment, with an excellent follow through

·      Entrepreneurial spirit, with the enthusiasm and energy to implement new strategies and meet ambitious goals

·      Strong organization skills, decision-making, and delegation skills

·      Willingness and ability to travel to meet with major donors within the US 

·      Fluency in a language in addition to English preferred and/or international experience

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

·      Minimum of 5-8 years professional experience in non-profit fundraising or external relations with experience in major gifts

·      Prior leadership experience in a similar setting

The salary range reflects the San Francisco Bay Area salary scales and will be adjusted based on city, state, and/or country of the candidate so that we can ensure internal equity.
