Position description

The Environmental and Social team (E&S team) is responsible for the implementation of UKEF’s environmental, social and human rights (ESHR) policy. The E&S team represents UK Export Finance and, where appropriate, the UK Government on ESHR issues relating to UKEF’s operations.

The E&S team currently consists of a team of eleven members of staff. We are now seeking to recruit at HEO grade due to organic growth and demand, following UKEF’s record volume of export support in the year 2020/2021, our continued focus on ESHR risks and opportunities, and our application of good international industry practice (GIIP) across pre-commitment due diligence and post-issue management.

Job description

The Environmental and Social (E&S) Adviser undertakes specific tasks relating to UKEF’s ESHR due diligence and monitoring processes which fall within the scope of the OECD Common Approaches and Equator Principles (as set out in UKEF’s ESHR Policy), and includes wider climate change review of other UKEF products. In addition, the E&S Adviser supports the E&S team in providing technical advice to the Business Group, the Strategy, Policy and Climate Change Directorate, and other teams in UKEF on ESHR matters, including on ESHR policy matters. The role also includes supporting UKEF’s involvement on ESHR international relations at the OCED Export Credit Group and with the Equator Principles Group.

Person specification

  • Undertaking ESHR (and climate change, where required) case screenings and classification including collating relevant ESHR risk related data and information;
  • Maintaining UKEF’s ESHR case log and setting up E&S electronic case files;
  • Monitoring E&S Team’s inbox and responding to general queries;
  • Supporting and undertaking specific tasks relating to ESHR due diligence and monitoring case work within the scope of UKEF’s ESHR Policy including:

  • gathering case ESHR risk assessment and management information;
  • attending internal and external meetings to discuss management of ESHR risks, UKEF’s due diligence and monitoring requirements;
