Position description

Transparentem is a U.S.-based non-profit that advances the well-being of workers and communities by exposing hard truths to those with the power to transform industries, primarily companies sourcing products from global supply chains. Our goal is to eradicate environmental and human rights abuses in global supply chains. We are currently focused on applying our focus in the apparel and footwear sectors in new industries and building out our environmental portfolio.

We are seeking an Operations and Development Associate to join our Operations team. Together, the team is responsible for all non-programmatic elements at the organization, including  HR, core administrative and operational functions, grants management, fundraising, communication, and monitoring and evaluation. The Operations and Development Associate will work closely with all members of the organizational and business development team, including the President, executing a variety of support work to advance the efficiency, capacity, and influence of Transparentem.

This role reports to the Senior Operations Manager. Training and  professional development opportunities  in each functional area of the position will be provided, as well as opportunities to build knowledge related to Transparentem’s programmatic work.

 

Responsibilities

Operations and cross-functional projects (40%)

  • Organize, maintain,  and analyze data from key internal databases across the organization including HR, CRM, and finance reporting systems
  • Execute the day-to-day administrative and logistical work of the Operations
  • Support and/or manage as appropriate, special projects related to organizational development (including HR, operations, IT, and security/risk management) and conducting research to support the planning and execution of such projects
  • Support the Chief of Staff and Senior Operations Manager in board relations, including all board-related scheduling and preparation for quarterly board meetings
  • Facilitate hiring and onboarding of new employees and contractors, working closely with hiring managers across departments 
  • Support the Senior Operations Manager and Senior Management team in preparing and facilitating training, learning, and development across the organization 

 

Business development and communications support (45%)

  • Track, identify, and propose new funding opportunities to Fundraising team
  • Support drafting and review of proposals and concept notes
  • Support drafting communications materials, including blogs, social media, etc.
  • Process donations and draft donor acknowledgements
  • Organize fundraising events, and providing event-based communications support
  • Conduct research to inform Transparentem’s business development and partnership strategies
  • Support the Managing Editor with copy editing, proofreading, and fact checking as needed
  • Maintain Transparentem’s website, LinkedIn, and other external-facing platforms
  • Support the Senior Grants Manager, as needed, with monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and other data analysis needs
  • Other projects as needed

 

Executive Assistance (15%)

  • Support the President and Executive team on scheduling and logistics
  • Develop briefing documents for leadership to prepare for high-profile external meetings
  • Support other special projects as needed

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is passionate about ending labor and environmental abuses in global supply chains, with a growth mindset ready to jump start their career in international non-profit management. The candidate who fills this position will thrive in a fast-paced environment with a diverse range of responsibilities, and apply exceptional customer service, analytical skills,  and attention to detail in supporting internal and external stakeholders. They will also be comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy orchestrating many moving parts to meet the team’s goals.

  • A passion for Transparentem’s mission, and strong interest building a career in nonprofit management
  • 2-3  years of relevant experience; experience in non-profit operations, development, or communications. Experience working in organizations focused on labor, environment, and human rights is a strong advantage
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and consistent attention to detail 
  • Strong analytical skills, and experience performing research and analysis to inform organizational decision making
  • Resourcefulness, a commitment to learning, and an ability to pivot and innovate; with a solution-oriented mindset and ability to manage plans autonomously
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively
  • Multi-cultural competency and experience working on remote teams, and across time zones
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, CRM software and Adobe Acrobat, with a demonstrated ability to pick up new technology quickly
  • ​​BA/BS or equivalent experience
  • Strong proofreading and copy-editing skills a plus

Other requirements:

  • Fluency in English required
  • US work authorization required (we are unable to sponsor H1-B visas)

Location: New York or DC (preferred); or remote within United States

Work arrangement: Primarily remote, with requirements to plan and facilitate in-person activities up to four times per year

Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000 per year, plus a highly competitive benefits package, including: 401k match, 19 holidays, 20 vacation days, flexible schedules, and medical, vision and dental insurance.
