Position Summary
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) serves as the organization’s lead strategist for fund development and driver of growth in contributed revenue. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CDO is responsible for providing leadership, strategy, and management for all components of Days for Girls’ fundraising efforts, which will include short and long term strategies to ensure the organization’s growth and success.
Responsible for ensuring that the fundraising goals of the organization are successfully met, the CDO will lead the creation and execution of a development and fundraising strategy. Fund development elements include: donor acquisition and fund-raising events; annual giving and major gifts from individuals and corporations; and foundation and government grants. Supporting efforts include staff training; donor stewardship; gift entry and acknowledgement; database management; and donor research.
This is a full-time position that requires flexible hours since sometimes responding to particular communications can't wait for Monday morning. Also, We are a global organization that requires flexible hours, which means both early morning and late evening calls do come up to accommodate diverse timezones.
Finally, this is a completely remote position, so you must be prepared to work from home. This means having a comfortable space to take video meetings and a good wifi connection.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Immediately assess the “state of play” of in-process fundraising efforts and provide support for those efforts
- Lead the creation and execution of an updated and comprehensive Days for Girls International development and fundraising strategy
- Define metrics and measurements that quantify performance against goals and a system for obtaining and reporting those metrics and measurements for resource development
- Plan, coordinate and assure implementation of strategies to develop donors and contributions in support of the organization
- Ensure that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization's values, mission, vision and plans
- Recommend short- and long-range fund development plans and programs that support the organization's values, mission and objectives.
- Advise the CEO, board members, and Executive Leadership Team, and staff of current resources, trends, obstacles, and developments in revenue generation and donor relations
- Oversee staff support to DfGI Board of Directors, stakeholder groups, and to CEO for highest level donor cultivation and solicitation activities
- Proactively ensure that the organization develops strong long term relationships with large scale individual, foundation and corporate donors/funders.
- Personally, builds and maintains key relationships to ensure fund development strategy is achieved
- Ensure establishment of a diverse donor base of individual, corporate, foundation, and public segments
- Ensure meaningful and effective partnerships with key public and private sector entities to reinforce the DfGI brand and its impact in the community
- Develop innovative recognition opportunities and materials and events for continuity and donor stewardship
- Responsible for grant strategy and review of all submissions
- Directly supervises development staff
- Works closely with the Chief Program Officer and CEO to ensure that programs have the resources to meet short and long range goals/objectives
- Maintain accountability and compliance standards for donors and funding sources.
- As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, participate in short- and long-term strategic and operational planning for the organization.
Qualifications
- People person with a track record of success in development, fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors
- Advanced writer with understanding of international development and/or menstrual health field preferred
- Must have strong project management and communication skills and be good at following through and meeting deadlines
- Minimum of five to seven years experience in fundraising and development
- Strong working knowledge of best practices in nonprofit fundraising
- Four year degree required
- Masters degree preferred
- Possess a strong work ethic and operate with a high level of trustworthiness and integrity
