Position description

Blue Crab is looking for a Senior Client Manager to serve as the primary lead for key philanthropic, nonprofit, and corporate clients at the forefront of the global fight against climate change. The Senior Client Manager will actively engage with various stakeholders, including C-suite executives, philanthropic funders, organizational leaders, coalition members, government officials, technical experts, etc. The Senior Client Manager will nurture internal and external relationships, promote an inclusive workplace culture, manage personnel and teams, and coordinate multiple interrelated projects. Additionally, the Senior Client Manager will serve as a leader within the firm, effectively managing and coaching staff, contributing to and leading ad hoc internal operations and systems, where necessary, and participating in growth opportunities like business development.


The Senior Client Manager must be able to listen and engage in discussions with multiple stakeholders across a broad variety of climate-related fields to create strategies, programs, and materials that suit client needs. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is an equally exceptional communicator, strategist, organizer, and executor. The Senior Client Manager is expected to autonomously own and manage their client portfolio and should have experience crafting and creating unique strategies, approaches, campaigns, and programs without the guidance of existing templates and frameworks. Comfortability and experience with designing workshops and gatherings to achieve desired outcomes, as well as facilitating large-group meetings of various stakeholders is an ideal quality in a candidate and will be expected of the Senior Client Manager, when in seat. Climate experience is not required but welcomed.


This position is fully remote but requires some travel both within the U.S. and internationally. Preference is for candidates based in Eastern Standard Time or Central Standard Time.

Duties & Responsibilities

In an average week, the Senior Client Manager can expect to:

  • Oversee the end-to-end execution of client projects, ensuring delivery within scope and on schedule
  • Manage client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact for client needs
  • Anticipate client requirements and proactively address challenges to ensure client satisfaction
  • Create, develop, and execute strategies, approaches, workstreams, and campaigns
  • Lead and facilitate client meetings and ensure all relevant team members (internal and external) are aligned and contributing accordingly
  • Support and prepare funders, executives, and experts for calls, workshops, and other projects they’re leading
  • Concurrently manage multiple clients with competing priorities, timelines, and needs ensuring that milestones are met and that no client need is missed regardless of constraints and conflicts
  • Actively contribute to the growth of client accounts and the expansion of BCS service offerings



Required Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of experience in a similar role working with NGOs, coalitions, campaigns, or consulting
  • A commitment to racial and social justice with the understanding of how they connect to issues surrounding the climate and environment
  • An ability to pick up technical verbiage quickly when working with others, though pre-existing policy expertise is not a requirement
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to work with a wide variety of people both in the U.S. and abroad
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Previous experience in complex project management
  • A people person who can move things forward in a respectful way even when working with large coalitions, and strong personalities
  • Ability to manage and manage-up in a remote environment
  • Comfort in a leading and forward facing role for multiple projects
  • Experience managing staff members

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of energy systems, climate change, and/or philanthropy
  • Strong networks in civil society, climate-related business, government, and/or climate-related philanthropy.
  • Background in environmental justice and experience working with a variety of actors including partners based in the global south
  • Familiarity with strategy, campaigns, strategic communications or advocacy within the climate justice and/or energy transition space
  • Experience managing a small team

Benefits and Salary

Salary is between $95,000 - $102,000 Our benefits include a 401k with matching contributions, 20 vacation days (2 weeks company-wide and 2 weeks discretionary), 10 sick days, 12 weeks of paid parental leave. Blue Crab Strategies offers insurance coverage for eligible employees. Employees are given the option to choose any plan on the District of Columbia’s health insurance exchange. Blue Crab Strategies pays at least 80% of the monthly premium for the selected health care plan for employees, with employees paying up to 20% (varies based on cost of the plan).
