Position description

This position is with Strategic Perspectives, a pan-European think tank hosted as a programme by the Meliore Foundation.

The Industry Expert will define and implement our emerging work on industry, with guidance from the Executive Director and Director and reporting to Neil Makaroff, Director.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-starter and team player, with a sound understanding of the challenges, opportunities and policies that the EU’s industry faces as it decarbonises. The right candidate will have experience in the corporate sector or business associations and EU industrial policy-making and the way it intersects with politics at national and international levels. You want to use this knowledge and your network in defining and implementing our approach on industry within a mission-driven organisation.

If this sounds like you, we'd love for you to apply.

How you'll contribute

  • Supporting the Executive Director and Director in defining, designing and implementing Strategic Perspectives’ emerging work and strategy on industry;
  • Developing a plan how to grow Strategic Perspectives’ visibility, credibility and impact on the industrial transition with guidance by the Director and leading on the execution of this plan;
  • Developing well-sourced documents that can form the basis for briefings, reports, policy recommendations, blogs or other media interventions;
  • Representing Strategic Perspectives in network meetings and events with external stakeholders where applicable;
  • Monitoring developments, policy decisions and emerging narratives in the European industry debate, and thus acting as a source of information and updates for the team and an international communications network we work closely with;
  • Maintaining and growing a network of relevant actors among policymakers, business and financial actors as well as civil society organisations and contributing to building coalitions around joint goals.

Our ideal candidate has

  • Relevant work experience of at least five years in the corporate sector, business associations and/or in EU policy-making related to industry;
  • A thorough understanding of EU industrial policy making and the way it intersects with politics at national and international levels;
  • Proven ability to conduct research independently and to summarise complex processes in an appealing way, including on EU policy-making;
  • A strong network in industrial transition including policymakers, business and financial actors, among others;
  • The ability to assess a changing political landscape, identifying the most crucial intervention points that add value to the overall discourse;
  • Strong time and priority management, a can-do mentality and the ability to work on different topics at the same time;
  • Motivation to be a proactive team-player with a passion for excellence;
  • An impeccable work ethic, enthusiastic personality and sense of humour;
  • Outstanding English language skills, with a track record of producing engaging policy materials; strong French and German language skills are an asset;
  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust community of peers;
  • The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across video conferencing, instant messaging, etc.;
  • A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.

Only candidates with the right to work in their location will be considered.
