Position description

The Politics Department at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in the area of comparative politics. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of four years, beginning fall semester 2025, and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.

We seek candidates with teaching and research interests in the comparative study of political regimes (democracies and non-democracies), representation (political parties, civil society actors) and/or identities (gender, class, race, ethnicity). We are particularly interested in expanding our range in comparative politics beyond regions already covered by existing faculty in the department, so candidates whose teaching or research can address advanced capitalism/Global North countries are encouraged to apply. The position is open regarding theoretical and methodological approaches.

The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) and will be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research. The incumbent is also expected to participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising, mentoring undergraduate research and service on committees.

Among the qualifications required for appointment is the PhD degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2025-26). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
